MORE THAN 30 RELEASED
AVoodburn, Greshani, Montavilla,
Bradfords and Baby Beavers
Cut Lists Materially, All to
Get to 12-Man JDImit.
Yesterday was "pruning day" In the
Irvter-City Baseball League. All the
clubs have to be down to 12 men by
next Sunday, consequently wholesale
slaughtering- was In order.
Woodburn released Pete Lucier, W.
6. Hicks, Alfred Jensen and Harry
Bennett and signed W. R. Hurst.
Manager Heales, of the Kirkpatrick
(Stars, already had his roster pretty
well down toward the limit, so he
signed Joe Dixon, outfielder, and John
Hoppe. Dixon is one of, the best out
fielders in the local field and many
Inter-City League fans were wondering
why he had not made his appearance
before this. He will play center field
lor the Stars next Sunday at St. Helens,
Grnham Releases S Men.
Gresham had more men signed to
iparchements than any other club so
Manager Boss got busy yesterday
with his ax. He released Alec Nagle,
Hans Gravelle, Oliver Wendell Holmes
and Paul S. Ogden, infielders; Joe
O'Leary and Joe Wiley, outfielders;
Johnny Newman, catcher and George
Kelly and Tom S. Townsend, pitchers.
Townsend was released temporarily
only. The veteran Is a dandy chucker,
but his arm has been bothering him of
late. He will be put back on the pay
loll as soon as he rounds into shape.
Ross cut off two extra heads so that'
he could sign Ray Kennedy and Chet
Hughes, outfielders. Kennedy is a
veteran and played with the Sellwood
club last season. Hughes played with
the East Side club last Summer and
is a crackerjack hitter.
Montavilla dropped Brownie Pritch
srd and Henry Knlppde, infielders,
and C. E. Messenger, catcher. Knipple
end Messenger have shown -no class
to date, but Pritchard is one of the
best shortstops in the city. Money
matters promtped Pritchard's release.
Heales, of the Kirkpatricks, Is dicker
ing for him.
Bradfords Let 11 Go.
The Bradford East SIders also did
the slaughtering act. Those dropped
are Clay Patterson, Clarence Decker
and William J. Boland, catchers; Chet
Worden, T. E. Burns and Billy Mascott,
Infielders; Chink Driscoll, pitcher, and
Walter Bell, outfielder. Arthur Moel
ler, Jude Moreland and Charley Moore
were suspended.
The Baby Beavers released the fol
lowing: Joe Spady, George Cowling,
Roy Howard and Leslie Peterson, out
fielders, and C. P. Anderson, pitcher.
Shortstop Walter Watts was sus
pended.
St. Helens only has 13 men under
contract and will be forced to release
or suspend only one. Woodland has
17 lads signed to parchments. They
will have to drop five promising
youngsters. Up until late last night
Secretary Wayne F. Lewis had not
heard from either of the Columbia
River managers.
Woodland to Xj'ae Home Boys.
In a letter from the St. Helens man
agement to the secretary of the Inter
City circuit it was said that the club
will be down to the limit by Saturday.
Manager E. E. Dale, of Woodland, in
tends to use home players only from
now on. He has added a. couple of
promising boys from Woodland to his
lineup. The Woodland bunch has here
tofore been importing a couple of out
side players to bolster the lineup, hut
has met with no success. They tackle
a hard team Sunday, the Bradfords.
The games will be played as orig
inally scheduled next Sunday, but
President Fred Norman Bay intends
to have the schedule changed for one
week from Sunday so that all the
frames will be played out of the city.
The Woodburn management has re
quested the president to send the
Bradfords to that city April 23, as there
is some kind of "doings" going on
there on that date. The schedule will
be fixed so as to have the Bradfords
on the job. They beat Woodburn last
Sunday.
