Wash very thoroughly through sev eral cold waters as much well-bleached lettuce as is needed. Chop and grind the almonds after blanching enough to make a cupful. Have six apples In the refrigerator or in a cold place. When ready to make salad, dry the lettuce and arrange it in nests on a salad platter, or if preferred on in dividual plates, using only pale, crisp leaves. Pare and core the apples and then slice in rings as thick as the slices of pineapple. Over the apple in a dish pour vinegar with a teaspoonful of oil in it. Pour this off. . This will keep the apple from becoming dis colored. Salt apple daintily. Pile a slice of apple in each nest, then a slice of pineapple, then a slice of apple, or . vice versa, if you prefer a pineapple salad. Fill the cavity in the middlewith chopped a-lmonds slightly salted. On top of each top layer put a Bpoonful of stiff salad dressing and place a candied cherry on top. Garnish with candied cherries or a flower or two if nasturtium-season, using leaves and flower. A little-more salad dressing may be put around the base of the nests if not otherwise garnished or a pretty dish of it may be passed with tne eaiaa. Use the following sweet salad dress ing. One-fourth cup pineapple Juice, one-fourth cup lemon Juice, one-half cup sugar, two beaten eggs. salt (pinch). Add liouids and sugar to the beaten eggs and cook in double boiler till thick, stirring constantly. THE "Billie Burke coat" is one of the latest and loveliest ideas in wraps. Of course, everyone knows the dainty and dashing person from whom it gets its name, but only those who have admired the chic, straight across the back and front, collar, its rippling folds and wonderful linings can com prehend how completely the spirit of the fascinating Billy- has been im parted to the coat. First of all there are yards and yards of material that falls from the shoul ders in simple, ample folds and rip ples.. Then the shoulders are almost a& neat and trim as the balmacaan. The regular "Billy Burke" coat has a col lar that goes from shoulder to shoulder and fastens on the left shoulder, but a number of very late ones have full wide collars, made to lie down or stand up, and fastening in the front or on the side. The cut of the coat makes the top of the back fit almost like a yoke, and here and there an inverted pleat holds in the fullness. -The linlnes are of fancy silks, brocades and divers i pretty cloths. Pockets, front belts and fine buttons are additional at tractions on a number of new ones. "Billy's coat" hangs to the shoe tops. and is a trifle shorter in the front than elswhere. Most of the "Billy Burke coats" are dark with light or bright collars and a bit of piping. A number of silk and of wool poplin coats in fine, full models and som light weight Boliva cloth Summer coats are attractive. Yellow- in its variou values is a favorite color for enliven lng this Summer's coats. There are many smart sport cloths, especially coats, this Summer, stripes ana plain bright colors belntr esDec ially favored. A short changeable blue and green sport coat with a belt and big green bone buttons is displayed. xeuow ana purple and green and nur pie are attractive combinations, to -be worn on many occasions. Plain worsted cloths and homespuns now vie with merry shades of silk Some very nobby coats- for the hunt the woods and outings of all sorts are in dull, somber homespun. But the miss wearing them is warned by the de signer not to be somber of bonnet, for with these materials go the liveliest sport hats, and cretonne chapeaux to De zouna.
