ORrXJON CITT. Or, Krb. 7. (Spe
cial.) The havoc wrought by the
floods In Southern California waa pic
tured graphically today by Dr. Hugh
8. Mount, of thla city, who has Just re
turned from a two weeks' visit In the
stricken district, Mr. Mount, accom
panied by his wife, their son and Miss
Ijiurna Oanong. of Portland, left early
last month On an automobile- tour

arrived Just aa the flood began and
for more than a week wer forced to

All road a out of Ean Diego were
made Impassable by the storm, and the
riy left San Diego by steamer, go
ing: first to Ban Pedro, where they
boarded a train.
Dr. Mount has praise for the spirit
of the Callfomlan. who are undaunt
ed by the floods. "When we left offi
cials of tha city and county govern
ment were arranging for a 19.000.000
bond Issue to rebuilt roads and dams
and to put the country in the same
condition It waa before the flood," he
said. "They raised llTSnOO by sub
scriptions in the devaetateQ district for

accept one cent from outside communl
ties. Through their energy and their
resourcefulness there waa little suf
fering following the flood, although
wealthy persona ware made poor i

totaling million waa done.
"They will never know exactly how

It was alleged by Francis Adams. Jr.,
brother of Mrs. Dobson. that Dr. Frank
lin had been the attending physician at
several operations undergone by hi
sister.
Mr. .Florence Adams Dobson wsa dl
vorced from her husband. Alfred P.
Dobson. in 1 13. Desertion was the
basis for the suit.
Fhe at one time lived in Portland. Or.
The affection of Mrs. Dobson .for her
parents, which led to her separation
from her husband, because of his re
fusal to live in Chicago, where she
might be near them, was such that her
despondency must have followed their
recent death. In the opinion of Mr. Dob
son. who la a Portland attorney.
Judge Adams, the father, died In Jan
uary, and the mother passed away less
than a year ago.
Mr. Dobson met the woman who later
became his wife In Chicago and mar
rled her In 1906. They came to Port
land to live and he became established
In this city. After enree weeks of
wedded life, she became homesick for
Chicago and her parents, with whom
she hod always lived, being; an only
child.
Her husband agreed that It would be
well for her to go back for a visit. She
did not care to come back to Portland
and be did not wish to go to Chicago.
That waa tha real cause of divorce, said
Mr. Dobson yesterday. He had a letter
from his wife's brother In which that
waa cited as the sole cause of disagreement,
