Slckeln to continue a. acting general manager, make cer tain a considerable change at the an nual meeting January 25. DOCTOR TO PAY FOR ERROR Woman Wins Verdict In Action for Incorrect Diagnosis. PALLAS. Or.. Jan. 14. (Special.) The Jury in the Circuit Court here to day returned a verdict for J IS 1.50 in favor of Mra. Laura Barham. wife of a local contractor, against Dr. L. A. Boll man, a Dallas physician, for error in diagnosis and treatment. iShe had sued for .4850. The verdict covers the ex pense of the subsequent operation and hospital cost at Portland. Last Summer Mrs. Barham fell and her right shoulder was dislocated. Dr. Bollman. It Is alleged, treated the In jury as a broken arm. As a result, Mra. Barham asserted, the arm has been permanently disabled. The case prob ably will be appealed. SCHOOL PRINCIPAL RISES A. C. Hampton Named City Super intendent at Pendleton. PENDLETON. Or.. Jan. 14. (Spe cial.) At a special meeting of the Pendleton School Board held last night A. O. Hampton, for the past few years principal of the Pendleton High School, was unanimously elected city superintendent of schools. Following the resignation of J. S. Lancers as su perintendent last Spring there has been no appointment to the place. Mr. Hampton acting as superintendent. L. P. Gambee. head of the agricul tural department, was elected princi pal of the high school. Mr. Gambee is a graduate .of the Oregon Agricul tural College. Quick action in giving the alarm by Principal Orr emptied the building ot all persons In one and one-half minutes. Little children who lost their wraps suffered from cold until their parents arrived and took them home. Good work by the local Are depart ment, using a chemical engine on the grounds, assisted by high school boys, who laid the lines of hose, saved the structure. Regular' train service has been established on. the completed portion of the Govern ment railroad line out of Anchorage, the passenger fare being -11-55 for a 26-mlle trip, freight 30 cents a hundred pound or J2.75 a ton in carload lots. This schedule is temporary during con struction. The bridge over Eagle River has, been completed and a crew ia layingft. steel 12 miles beyond to Jlatanuska. Fifteen teams are engaged in hauling; construction material over the snow ' for a bridge at Moose Creek, on the branch to the coal fields. Camps are being established all along the route of the branch line. When the emergency appropriatiort -now before Congress is available all ' teams to be had will be employed to -deliver material to other bridge sites- ; before the snow goes. The engineer-"' ins commission expects to complete the" branch road to Chlckaloon Creek, in- the coal fields, next Summer.
