Permits for development of 952 horse power from the John Day River and Warm Springs near Prairie City were granted today by State Kngineer Lewis, to th Prairie Power Company. The company proposes to extend a canal near Prairie City about two miles, con struct a reservoir at Strawberry Lake and develop power for lighting- Prairie City, Canyon City and John Day. A large mining dredge will also be opera ted on Canyon Creek. The estimated cotjt of the project is $45,000. A permit also has been granted to Horace G. Campbell, of West Lake Or., to develop power at the outlet of Whoa ntnk Lake In Lane County. were issued at 7:f0 P. M. for Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, where it is expected that temperatures near xcro will be reached tomorrow. Th weather is warmer in the Gulf and Atlantic States. The conditions ar favorable for gen erally fair weather in this district Tuesday with lower temperatures in Northern and Eastern Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Winds will be northeasterly, reach in tr salo force over Western Washington. FORECASTS. Portland and vicinity Probably fair and cooler; northerly winds. MANY BUILDINGS AFFECTED Proposed Code Would Require Drain Tipes to Connect With Sewers. Owners of 140 business places in the inner firo limits will be required to extend roof drain pipes down to connect-with sewers if a provision of the proposed new municipal plumbing codo is adopted, as it has been passed ten tatively by the City Council. The pro vision will require the expenditure of an average of about S50 on each of tha buildings. .... It Is reported that about one-half or the buildings have the sewer connec tions. Earl Furnam Dustln. aged 17. accidentally shot and killed himself Sunday near his parents home at Cald well. The lad was hunting and in crawllnsr under a fence the gun was discharged, shooting him through the lungs. The boy was a popular member of the high school freshman class, and school was dismissed today to enable the stu dents to attend the funeral.
