The Cnlted States Bureau of Education bas raquested eight special pbotorrapns or the Oraegon rural school exhibit In tha Educational Palace at the Panama Pacific Exposition, to be used tn a Government bulletin on rural school That th Oregon exhibit attracted un usual Interest i shown by the official reports received each week by the Stat Department of Education from airs. W. E. L'ueter. who wa in charge of the work for Oregon In the Educational ralsce. The reports for one week alone con tained the names of 130 persons who were anxious to have the bulletins pub lished by Superintendent of Public In struction Churchill on "Playgrounds," "Boys' and Girls' Industrial -Work" and the "Standard School Plan." These people made a study of the Oregon ex hibit. They represented all sections of the country, a dance at the list show ing Tlaitnrs from Georgia. Texas. Okla homa. Delaware. Nebraska. Illinois, Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee. Idaho, Arizona. North Carolina. Massachusetts, Washington. Indiana. West Virginia, Ohio. Wisconsin. Toronto. Canada; Ctah, Wyoming; and New Tork. Is a tjrrest help to us In trying; to solve our rural problem and we una an annwrr rlicht here.' " "This Is what we need In our state.' said G. C. Sherwood. Superintendent of Schools, of Mesa. Ariz, land I am glad to see this work being; done as it is In Oregon. I want this standardiza tion plan explained to me.' "Miss Lillian O'Dea. of Paterson, N. J., said: 'What wonderful work you are doing; for your rural schools.' She spoke especially of the club work. In fitting the vocational work to the needs of the community, you have done what so many other states hava not done, and this accounts for the many failures in taking; up this work.' Mrs. Butter wrote: " "The requests from many of these people that we place their names on our permanent mailing; list for future pud Mentions is the best proof we have of their genuine Interest In the Oregon system. When we realize that largely through the work of the United States Bureau of Education attention la ne ing turned toward rural education all over the country, it seems to explain the unusual interest in our exhibit at the fair. All of the visitors expressed the keenest appreciation of the work being done in Oresron, the whole tone of which suggests that we are not only well on the way toward working out our own rural problem, but through this exhibit and the literature you are sending out we ara helping other states to work out their" ' Sermon Thoughts From Portland Churches. fT1HE New Thought for the New 1 Tear waa the subject of Dr. J.
