Quarterly Inspection will be featured by a Christmas tree and dance on board the training ship Boston tonight, and elaborate preparations are being made for the event by the Oregon Naval Militia. In addition, medals and tro phies won during tbe target practice on th cruise last Summer will be presented. Inspection will be conducted by Adjutant-General George A. Whit aad Lieutenant John H. Blackburn. United state Navy, naval recruiting officer stationed at rortland. The Christmas tree will bear the medals and trophies for the fortunate runners. These will be presented by Adjutant-General White. Each of the 14 men comprising the winning gun crew will be given A medal. In addi tion, a trophy cup will be given to th high scoring division. Tbrre will also be four presents on the tree, two for women and two for men. By A special system of elimina tion, those who are to win these pres ents will be selected, so that all at tending th exercise will bav equal opportunity of being fortunate. The presents for the women are an elec tric flat Iron and coffee percolator. Th Inspection will begin about o'clock and wtll be followed by tbe danc about o'clock. Members of th Naval Militia, their families and their friends will be present. Lieutenant-Commander Blair expect that at least 100 men will be in line for Inspection. AIR SAYS "GLUCKWUNCHE" "Merry Christmas" Sent 9000 Miles Away Is Heard Ilere. Christmas messages being flashed to Germany and point In P'nmirk were heard In Portland yesterday and last night by wireles operators at the Fed eral plant on the Chamber of Com merce building. The messages were being sent from the radio station at Tuckerton. N. J., about 3000 miles from Portland. "Gluckwuncne," the German greet ing, or plain "Merry Christmas and Happy New Tear." formed the sub stance of a majority of the messages, although some of thera were of busi-. nesa Importance. Many of the mes sages were meant for Bremen, Berlin and Copenhagen.
