TONNAGE DROP EXPLAINED Conditions Year Aj-o Considered Store I'atorable, Mica 500,000 Duslicls More Were blilpped. Moot Is bent to Liu rope. Cloilns tha second month yesterday, la which tha blockade of the I'anaroa Canal has had a strons Influence. I'ort land did not make such a slump In cereal exports as many predicted. Th total shlDments of wheat were .:..-- buahela. act-ordlntr to tabulations of th Merchant' Kxcban.ce. add-il to which w-era :90.00 bushels of barlep. In November. 1914. a better showin waa made by more than &00.000 buahela. but at that time ships were loaded and waitlnir In the stream for tows seaward, and tonnase was not as scarce and the Canal was navlsable. All wheat from Portland was cleared for Kurope except s shipment of 3. 731 bushels for South America. I'uset Sound floated for export a total of 704.131 buahela. I4.ii; buahels eolna to Kurnpe. 10.7; bu-hels to bouth America and 70 bushels to tha Kar Kat. and her barley exports wera S6. 1177 hushela. all for Kurope. l'rom tbe ! northern harbor 6.4J3 bushels of oats wera moved to the Orleht, and flour ahlpmrnls to the Orient and bourn j America reached 13.734 barrels. Not a pound of flour moved last month from Portland, thouich a year ico 119.S77 barrels were shipped. The trade will be resumed somewhat this month, as orders hava been placed by South American firms and there ar stronsr probabilities that flour will be moved to Kuropo before tha year ends. Conditions have been such during the past few weeks that wheat was moved across the country by railroad and re loaded on the Atlantic side for th United Kingdom, so without doubt the actual amount of wheat to lesva the Northwest that would all have moved from Portland by water had tonnase been at hand, is sreater than tha water shipments laat November. Tbero should bo an Improvement this month, yet It is not counted on to com pare with December of laat year, when J. 793. 418 buahels were exported, with a further sain recorded In January. 2.0U.01S bushels being sent awsy. MOKE LUMBER TONNAGE NEED November Shipments More Than Half That Sent Year Ago. I-Bck of tonnage Is at present play Ins asainst the movement of lumbar coastwise, as well as offshore, the total California shipments for November having been 7.60i.O0O feet, while B year ago 1S.S99.141 feet were moved to the sister state. Dealers hava re ported an Improved demand during the past month and freight have advanced II sine Summer, with an upward tendency of the lumber market toward prices that prevailed before the Euro pean war. in Iha war of offahore business the total In November was 1.J41.00Z reet, valued at 4l.:. only three full car- soea being floated, and they were on vessels ordinarily classed aa coaster, the barkrnline fcVho taking I7S.111 feet for Sydney, the Brltlah schooner David Kvana sstl.117 feet for Melbourne, and th steamer Klamath 1.009.710 feet for U us J-mas. In addition to wnicn worn o Darcrl shipments. teei on the British steamer City of Corinth for Ixndon and loo.ooo feet on the steamer Columbia for Callao. In NovemOer last year the lumber exportation was s.saj. 1(1 feet, the effect of the war being keenly felt then In the foreign trade. Hair that loses its color and luster, or when it fades, turns gray, dull and lifeless, is caused by a lack of sulphur in the hair. Our grandmother made up a mixture of Sage Tea and Sulphur to keep her locks dark and beautiful, and thousands of women and men who value that even color, that beautiful dark-shade of hair which is so attrac tive, use only this old-time recipe. Nowadays we get this famous mix ture by asking at any drug store for a, 50-cent bottle of "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Comoound," which darkens tha hair so naturally, so evenly, that no body can possibly tell it has been ap plied. Besides, it takes off dandruff, stops scalp itching and falling hair. You Just dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair,' taking one small strand at a time. By morning the gray hair disappears; but what delights the ladies with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur is that, be sides beautifully darkening the hair after a few applications, it also brings back tne glOis and luster and gives it an ' appearauce of. abundance. -Adv. ii e 2,-iw l I l,T?J4l Mir iHotrfeiiygl B tW aWVb-- a I 1 bw WBWW !
