From this they deduce that It Is Mr. Lewis' duty to supply the estimate. By reason of no estimate having been furnished by Engineer Lewis since the completion of the highway work more than 80 days ago, the contractors allege that they are unable to pay debts In curred In the performance of the con tract, amounting to more than 350,000. The contract provides that Clatsop County shall pay them when the Engi neer supplies the estimate and value of the work performed. George Geissler. who was a candidate for Mayor of Chehalis at the city election a few months ago, and who came within three votes of win ning, is defendant in a damage suit filed in the Lewis County Superior Court, where his daughter-in-law. Mabel Geissler, and his son, Howard Geissler, are plaintiffs. Damages for personal Injury amount ing to 23000 are asked. The trouble is said to have originated over pay ment on an automobile sold by Geissler to his son. On November 11 Geissler Is alleged to hare roughly handled his daughter-in-law by pulling her from the automobile, inflicting injuries which are said to have kept the woman bedfast since. There were two disastrous fires up the Touchet within a few hours of each other Wednesday niijht of un known origin. The Hatfield barn burned about 1 o'clock, and with it went 40 tons of baled hay, valuable farm implements and several sets of harness. With difficulty the other farm buildings were saved. Another was discovered half a mile away in the box and chair factory at Baileysburg, one of the oldest in dustrial Institutions left ifi this county, and owned by the late Paul Donley. There was a quantity of light wood as dry as tinder stored in the building, and the flames made a terrific heat.
