SEVERAL TAKE ON WHEAT Grain Tonnage in Harbor Is More Than 1 1,000, Wind jammers Be ing in Majority; Hriton Due Todav for Mixed Car so. Making the trip down from Portland narbor to Astoria with the British schooner David Evans, and returning to fort land in time to leave down with the wheat-laden Norwegian, bark Lind- ticld just 18 hours from the time of her departure on the first trip, is the record lajd down by the Port of Port land tow boat Ocklahama Saturday night and yesterday. The Ocklahama left down with the David Kvans at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, reaching Astoria at mid night. She left up again immediately for Portland. At S o'clock yesterday morning she dropped down the river again with the Lindneld, and was due to arrive at Astoria about 6 o'clock last night. ' British Steamer Due Today. t The David Kvans, which cleared for Melbourne, Australia, carried a lumber cargo of 996.357 feet valued at $11,800. The Lindneld, which is under charter to M. II. Houser, cleared for Queens town or Falmouth for orders. She car ries a cargo of 131, :17s bushels of wheat valued at $137,845. The British steamer City of Corinth, which is under charter to Balfour, titithrie & Co. to load a part cargo of miscellaneous merchandise here for the United Kingdom, reached Astoria yes terday at 4:30 P. M. from Seattle, where she had been taking on cargo. She is expected to arrive iih Portland harbor some time today. Sailers in Majority. The majority of the grain tonnage now in port consists of sailing vessels, there being but one steamer, the Ho koku Maru, a Japanese vessel, under charter to Balfour, Guthrie & Co. The total grain tonnage ii the river now amounts to 1 1.256, but this will be lowered when the Lindneld crosses out unless other vessels should arrive im mediately. The French ship Andre Theodore is row loading at the Irving dock for M. if. Houser. and the Hokoku Maru is taking on grain at the Albina dock. Of th other grain vessels in the Harbor the French bark Rene, tinder Charter to Strauss & Co., is at Linnton disc harging ballast, and the Norwegian ship Hiawatha, booked by M. H. The first case to ' e tried in Lane County refer- ing to the herd law was held here yes terday, when Susan A. Gilstrap sued J. A. P.eep lor $16.25 for damage al leged due as the stock of J. E. Reep trespassed in garden and oat Held. The jury returned a verdict of $16.15 in favor o the plaintiff. The case is im portant, as the herd law is in force in the Richardson precinct. Miss Leita Reed, a telephone operator, eloped to Geneva, 111., with Edgar Bartlett, and was married five hours before her brother took a bride in a formal wed ding. The girl had made a wager with her brother that ahe would be married before he would, and on his wedding day hurried her nance to the altar. A marked disturbance is central over Min nesota and Eastern North Dakota and is causing strong winds over the Northern Plains States, and precipitation from Utah and Arizona northeastward to the interna tional boundary. Precipitation has occurred also in Western Pennsylvania and along the North Pacific Coast, wnere a moderate dis turbance is central near the entrance to the Strait of San Juan de Fuca. Small craft warnings were displayed from 9:10 A M. today until surdown at Coos Bay and the mouth of the Co'umbla River.
