CHICAGO. Oct. 11. Alleging: that the Mutual Life Insurance Company of Nw York contemplates investing $10,000,000 of its trust funds in the Anglo - French loan of $500,000,000, Olga H. S. Walsh, Chicago, holder of a $2000 Insurance policy in the Mutual filed tsuit for injunction in the Federal Court here. The insurance company, Charles A. Peabody, it was reported, directors, members of the Anglo - French credit loan commission, J. P. Morgan, indi vidually, and J. P. Morgan & Company, are named as defendants. Frank S. ilonnett, ex-Attorney-General of Ohio, who became Nationally known through his prosecution of anti-trust suits in the state in the Standard Oil - Com pany, acted as attorney for the plain tiff. Difficulties Set Kortk. , The complaint to the court which was filed by Mrs. Walsh in person sets forth that among the thousands of volicy-holders in the Mutual L,ife In surance Company are many persons of various nationalities, and that the in vestment of the trust funds of these policy-holders in the Anslo-French loan would tend to produce antagonism among, the policy-holders which might lead to disrupting the company and thereby depreciate the value of her Interest in the company. In the language of the bill, the court is informed that, "The solvency of the company and the conservation of the reserve fund depends on the goodwill of the policy-holders, and no part of the assets of the company should be loaned or invested In the securities of any of the warring nations or used for the purpose of abetting existing wars." The prayer of the bill is broad and Includes a petition for an injunction to restrain the officers of the Mutual Life Insurance Company from directly or indirectly investing its trust funds in the loan or from investing its trust funds or allowing any of its assets to be used for the purpose of aiding the manufacture of munitions of war. aer oplanes, submarines or any naval out fit or appliance to be used by the Eng lish or French nations for belligerent purposes. REDMOND SHOW DATES SET Premium for Potato Displays Are Bigger Than Eher Before. TIEPMOND, Or.. Oct. 11. (Special.) The fifth annual Redmond Potato Show and fair will be held in this city Octo ber 21. 22 and 23. This year's event promises to surpass all previous shows hold here, for the Redmond Commer cial Club, under the auspices of which the show is given, and Manager R. L. chee, who has immediate supervision tf the event, will see that the 1915 fchow is a record breaker. The premiums in the various depart ments this year are liberal and new departments have been added. There will be plenty of amusements of all kinds. It is xpected that not alone will the products of the Redmond dis trict be shown, but exhibits from the Tumalo, rrlneville and Sisters fairs. CHARLES LYNCH IS DEAD I.nU- Walla Walla Mun Leaves Sis ter in PortJand. WAT. LA WALLA. Wtsh., Oct. 11. (Special.) Charles Lynch, president of the Lynch Plumbing Company, died this morning at 10 A. M., following a brief illness. Mr. Lynch was born in this city 51 years ago. and had been a continuous resident herc except for two years. He was the son of P. M. Lynch, a pioneer blacksmith of this city who came here from Portland in the '608. Mr. Lynch leaves his wife, his mother, Mrs. Mary Lynch, of Tacoma: two sisters, Mrs. A. C. Marchonnier, of Tacoma. and Mrs. Charles Preston, of Portland, and two brothers. Martin Lynch, of Tacoma. Mr. Lynch was a well-known member of the Knights of Columbus. INDUSTRIAL FAIR IS OPEN fcchools. Merchants and Farmers Co operate iu Tenino Event. CENTRAL! A. Wash.. Oct. 11. (Spe cial.) The first Industrial fair ever held in Tenino opened today. The schools, merchants and farmers are co-operating In making the event a success. The merchants have offered valuable premiums for exhibits, the best of which will be shown at the Thurston County fair the last of this week. A feature of the Tenino fair will be a canning demonstration to morrow by Miss Florence Ward, of Pullman. WORK TO LAST MANY DAYS First Half of Each Week Until De cember to Be Devoted to Task and Donated Material May Be) Sent to Multnomah Hotel. The work of the Portland branch of the Surgical Dressings Committee has started and is well under way. Promptly at 9:30 o'clock yesterday Mrs. Charles Scadding and several of her assistants arrived at the headquar ters in the Hotel Multnomah and began sorting the linen and cotton materials that are to be made into bandages and dressings for the wounded soldiers of Europe. ' Tables were arranged; bright, sharp scissors and . thimbles were produced from sewing bags; measuring tapes were brought to light and the work was on. Women Work Steadily. All day long the women, cut and planned and measured. Everyone worked diligently. When the camera man found his Vay to rooms 775 and 777 that have been donated by Manager Bowers for the cause, the committee was so intent on the work they scarcely had time to look un. Not' a minute rmilii Via Inst. 'Bang went the flashlight and one of the women screamed. "Those bandages probably will hear worse noises on the battlefield," commented the photographer. A large part of the day was taken up in systematizing the work, and the committee expressed the belief that the movement had started so auspiciously that everything would go like clock work for the remainder of the season. Bandage-Makera Efficient. Mrs. Elliott Ruggles Corbett. who has assumed the duties of secretary, was among the prominent young ma trons assisting, and she proved an able bandage-maker. Miss Catherine Rus sell, ono of the society girls, did ex cellent work. Miss Emma Sandford, Mrs. William C. Alvord. Mrs. W. L. Brewster. Mrs. William IX Wheelwright. Mrs. J. C. Ainsworth, Mrs. C. J. Reed and many others as prominent gave untiringly of their time and ability to help along the good cause. Today the headquarters will be open again at 9:30 o'clock, and work will continue until the late afternoon. It is the plan of the committee to have the bandage-making bees every Mon day, Tuesday and Wednesday until De cember. President Wilson today pave formal sanction to the plan of the Pan-American con ference to extend recognition to the Carranza erovernment in Mexico. Diplomatic representatives here of several South American governments received instructions to take the same action as the United States. Similar word Is expected within a few days from the governments of all the other American republics. The time of recog nition will be fixed then. European governments, it la under stood, will follow the lead of the United States and other American republics. Great Britain and France, it is known, have Intimated that this would be their policy, and it is believed here Germany and Italy will do likewise, both having maintained an accredited agent to Gen eral Carranza for some time. Correspondence that passed between EHseo Arrcdondo. Carran&a's repre sentative here, and Secretary Lansing and members of the Pan-American con ference, relative to the protection of foreigners, amnesty, treatment of the clergy and Carranza's pledge to restore constitutional government, became public tonight. It reveals that Secre tary Lansinp; asked particularly of Mr. Arredondo concerning the attitude of the Carranza government toward the clergy. The Arredondo reply, dated October 8. follows: "Complying with your excellency's request asking me what is the attitude of the constitutional government in re gard to the Catholic Church in Mexico. I have tha honor to say that, inas much as the re-establishment of peace within order and law is the purpose of the government of Mr. Venustiano Carranza to tho end that all the In habitants of Mexico, without exception, whether nationals or foreigners, may equally enjoy the benefits of true jus tice and hence take interest in co operating to the support of govern ment, the laws of reform which guar antee individual freedom of worship according to everyone's conscience, shall be strictly observed. "Therefore, the constitutional gov ernment will respect everyody's life, property and religious eliefs, without other limitation than the preservation oC public order and the observance of the Institutions.
