6 THE MOTtNiyO OKHGOyiAN. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEJIBER 22, 1915. FEATURES VARIED olleir- AT YAMHILL FAIR sum ! Joan Livestock Barns Crowded and Display of Fruit and Vege tables Declared Excellent. GUARDSMEN FURNISH FUN Variety of Military Contests Arc Staged ana Carnival Attrac tions Provided Parade and Sing on Today's rrogramme. M'MINXVILLE. Or., Sept. 21 (Spe cial.) The tenth annual county fair, with its attending stock show, poultry exhibits and carnival features, opened this morning for four days with a good attendance. The stock barns are taxed to their capacity and the display of fruit, in jars and fresh, is excellent. The vegetable and grarden products are better than ever. Some school districts did not display ineir products and results of the chil dren's year of work. This may be at tributed to sudden and unexpected changes in the management of some districts; also a. change in the resi dents and the attending pupils. Tet the fair is great, with many startling features. Today's happy crowd was entertained with special athletic features conduct ed by the members of Company A, Third Infantry, Oregon National Guard, managed by Harry. M. White, who is in charge of the entire athletic pro gramme. There was a wall-scaling con test between two selected squads of eight men. the winners going over a 10-foot wall in 41 seconds, wearing full field uniform, blanket roll, belt and bayonet. Then followed a potato race for small boys, after which there was a tent-pitching contest. The winners of first place were: Sergeant Byron R. Stevens and Sergeant Claude C Hayes: second were T. Petersen and L. Petersen. Time, 2:56. The novelty tug-of-war between two teams of four men each was won by Martin, Manley, Petersen and Venable. The winners in the wall-scaling were Sergeant Hayes, Corporal Vanatta, Privates Manley, Petersen, Venable, Weston, Eckman and Smith. Captain F. L. Michelbook officiated as judge, assisted by Lieutenant Hon field. Captain Butler of the carnival com pany made his high dive, which will be a daily free event. Superintendent Brown of the fair board reports an excellent list of en tries of horses and cattle, as well as other stock. He now contemplates a grand massing of the entries for a pa rade Thursday. A feature for tomor row will be the Women of Woodcraft parade and the community sing in the evening. - MANY HEAR HYGIENE TALKS . Dr. White Addresses Throngs at Meetings In Baker District.
