TROPHY MATCH TOMORROW Cnvernor Intends to Bo Present and Is Expected to Make Awards to Winners Jn Kange Contests. State Team to Be Picked. Oregon National Guardsmen are run ning true to reputation at the state rifle shoot at the Clackamas range. The first day's performance showed that the ririemer returned almost per fect scores. Competition for inlivld ual honors yesterday was conducted without a slip by the range officers'. The morning matches were disposed of with perfect organization, and scores of S and 49 hits out of a posBiblo 50 were frequent. The shoot is open to teams from all over the state and the Naval Militia men are represented by one team. I'ortland is represented in the matches by six teams from as many companies of infantry, one team from headquar ters of the Third infantry, one from the Eighth Company. Coast Artillery; one from Troop A, Cavalry and one from the Naval . Militia. Eugene has two teams entered and Oregon City, Woodburn. Salem, Dallas, McMinn ville, Corvallis. Albany.-Cottage Grove. Roseburg, Medford and Ashland each have one team entered. Trophy Competition Tomorrow. The team matches today will be shot off and tomorrow the teams will com pete for the Governor's trophy. At the conclusion of the state match es, a team of 15 shoot members and three officers will be picked from among those having the-highest scores to represent the Oregon National Guard at the National matches In Jackson ville. Florida, late this month. As Oregon marksmen took ' third honors in tho National matches two years ago, a great deal of .Interest is mani fest in the work of the guardsmen at the state shoot. Wednesday, preparatory to the open ing of the state matches, the shoot for the possession cf the Buttcrfield trophy was held and was won by Ser geant Wolford, of Roseburg. who made a record of 07 out of a possible 100. Rales for Malrhn Announced. According to General Orders No. 14, the ranges for the state team matches of today will be: Slow fire, 200 and 300 and 1000 yards; rapid fire. 200 and 300 yards. In slow-fire shooting no sight ing shots will be allowed and 15 shots will be fired for record. In rapid-fire 10 shots at each range will be fired. The Governor's trophy match, the feature of tomorrow's programme, is open to teams of eight men each from the Coast Artillery and Third Infantry. The teams are to be selected by the commanding officer from members of tho organization competing in the state trophy and individual matches. The ranges and the order of fire will 'be rapid. 200 and 300 yards; slow 800 and 1000 yards. In the slow fire no sighting shots will be allowed and 10 shots will be fired for record. Rapid fire' will bo 10 shots for each range. Orflcers for Shoot Appointed. General White has been passing most of his time at the Clackamas range and has appointed Colonel C. McLaughlan as executive officer and Major W. W. Wilson as range officer. The other officers detailed are Captain Eugene Moshberger, Wood burn, in charge of the pits; Captain Frank Vlncll, Roseburg. camp surgeon; Captain George Shumacher. camp ad jutant; Captain M. B. Huntley. Eu gene, range officer: Captain Leo Pironi. Captain H. O. Hulse and Lieu tenant Fred M. West, all of Portland, range officers; Captain A. J. Vance, Medford. range officer; Captain J. A. Buchanan, Roseburg, range officer; Lieutenant R. R. Knox. Albany, range officer. Governor Withycombo intends visit ing the Clackamas range the latter part of the shoot and will no doubt be present to present to the winners the trophies won in the several matches. MANY liERSGOii "PROSPERITY SPECIAL" WITH OHIO DELEGATION DIE THIS MORNING. Portland Clcarlng-IIouse Will Enter tain Visitors, Who Will Stop Over I en Way to Bee Fair. They call It the "prosperity special" the big 12-car all-steel train that will bring the Ohio bankers and their families to I'ortland today. And the occupants of the special, it is reported, look Just as prosperous as does their train. They are recruited from all parts of the old Buckeye state, but most of them come frotn the Cleveland dis trict. They are duo to arrive over the Northern Pacific about 8 o'clock this morning and will leave over the South ern Pacific at 5 tonight. In the eight or nine hours that they are in I'ortland they will be the guests of the Portland Clearing-House Asso ciation. Automobiles will meet them at the I'nion Station and convey them to the Portland Hotel, which "has been designated headquarters for all the bankers due here this week. Other automobiles will take them, later in the day. through some of the scenic environs of the city. Lunch prob ably will be served at the Portland. The Ohloans will be the first of the special train parties to visit Portland en route from Seattle to San Fran cisco. The New. York bankers. Pennsyl vania bankers and aeveral other or ganized parties will be here on Satur day. Tortland bankers are preparing to entertain them all. Tomorrow wr.l be the big day so far as Portland and the bankers are con cerned. Not only will several special trains arrive, but all the regular trains will carry big parties. PERSONAL MENTION. CHICAGO, Sept.lTl-CSpecial.) From Portland today registered at the Con gress was E. L. Vandresar. ELEVATOR ACT UP TODAY Safeguards on Automatic Lifts Are Now Proposed. Commissioner Dieck's proposed ordi nance to require installation of safe guards on autohiatic elevators will be before the Council this morning for final passage. An emergency clause has been attached which will make it effective immediately upon passage. The measure requires either the in stallation of the elevator shaft door flush with the inside of the elevator shaft or the installation of a door on the cage in addition to the door in the shaft. No projection may extend in the shaft more than one inch and pro jections of this size must be beveled. The measure has been presented as a result of a number of recent accidents. Last Trip Steamer Potter. In North Beach service this season will be: Leaving Ash-street dock 10 P. M. Saturday; returning from Megler, 9 P. M. Sunday. G. Hopwii. By appointment of Secretary of the Interior Lane, dating from today, E. G. Hopson. supervis ing engineer of the United States Reclamation Service, has been transferred from that position to that of consulting engineer of the same service. The recent reorganization of the Barvlce has abolished the office of supervis ing engineer, whic.h has hitherto controlled the administrative work of the service in Oregon, California and Nevada, with of fices in the Central Building, Portland. Mr. Hopson's new work will embrace the wider field of the entire western part of the coun try in which Government proj ects are situated. He is retain ing the same offices at 102 Cen tral Building, and in addition to such engineering work as may be required of him by the Gov ernment, is carrying on a gen eral engineering business, deal ing particularly with hydraulic problems and agricultural development. OREGON CITY, Ors Sept. 8. (Spe cial.) The story of the sensational ad ventures of Sherma A. Baldwin, a 19 year-old Portland girl, who was mar ried in San Francisco March 17, 1914, is told In a divorce complaint filed in the Clackamas County Circuit Court today. The girl has lived in Portland 15 years and was graduated by the Lincoln High School in that city. She says that soon after her mar riage, Baldwin, being unable to sup port her, took her to the home of his mother, "a rendezvous for white slav ers." Several nights later she says she was taken to a San Francisco apartment-house, but managed to make her escape. Once, after fleeing from the place, she says she met her husband on the street and that he swore at her. She describes him. In her complaint, as "coarse, low and brutal." Mrs. Baldwin asks for the return of her maiden name, Sherma E. Dana. Seton & Strahan. of Portland, are her attorneys. The girl left her home in Portland more than a year ago to be come a moving-picture actress in California. Rosebnrg Night Officer Dismissed. ' ROSEBURG. Or., Sept. 9. (Special.) Alleging that Israel Ketch, for the past two years night officer here, had neglected to conduct his office properly. Mayor Rice last night reported to the Council that Mr. Ketch had been dis missed from service. Grant Wilcox, a local teamster, was appointed to nil the vacancy. In Faulty Test, 3 Cow Are Killed. As a result of a recent tuberculosis test, which later proved to be faulty, four valuable Holsteins, one worth $600, belonging to David McKeown. were condemned and three killed.
