Clackamas County will be well represented at the conference called by the Governor to be held at the Capitol at Salem, when a general plan for disporing of the Oregun & California grant lands i,to be consid ered. The county delegation will be well supplied with accurate miorma tion. If tha plans of a group of local professional and business men, headod by C. Schuebel, work out The conference is considered of th highest Importance to Clackamas County as the grant lands have an a- praised valuation of more than $1,000, 000 and consist of 97,000 acres. Some of this property is-Jthe best timber and agricultural land in the county. The County Court in every county containing grant lands is entitled to appoint five delegates. These repre sentative probably will be named within the next week. jJn, Schuebel has asked the County Court to instruct County Assessor Jack to make a list of the classes of land and the amount of taxes due annually on every classification. Mr. Schuebel outlined a plan of disposing of the property. He be lieves that the state should buy tha land from tho railroads at $2.50 an acre and then sell It to actual settlers. The profit made by the state, he sug gests, should be applied to tho school fund. Be believes that In cases where the stump land is not fit for agricul tural purposes, it should be reforested.
