Reporta of Bumper Cereal Crop Aid
in Lowering Market; Oats
Also Are on Decline.
CHICAGO. Aug. 20. Shrinkage of export
demand, a circumslanue laid principally to
the sinking of the Arabic and the Bovie,
did a good deal today to lower the price
of wheat. The market, although steady at
the close, waa 1 to lo net lower, with
September at 1.04 and December at
$1.02. Corn showed, a setback of to
o and oats of m shade to c In
provisions, tho outcome received a 7c de
cline to a rise of be.
Aside from the results of German sub
marine activity, the chief Influence on the
wheat market was the bearish crop outlook
in th Northwest. Rains in tho Winter crop
states seemed to have had only a temporary
effect in favor of the bulls.
Assertions by a leading authority that the
crop of corn this season would amount to
3,000.000,000 bushels tended to weaken the
cereal. At first, however, the market wa.
on the advance, owing to cool temperature,
which were thought likely to hinder growth.
