PoncmuD went to Chinnam po recently and murdered a "sorceress" named Tl Honcwon and Injured more or less severely her mother and two brothers. lie then surrendered himself at the Oilnnampo police office. O. Tonitmun has been auf'ertnr from disease for the past few year and tha sorceress told him that the cause of the disease was due to the anger of the Rods and could be cured only by prayers to the poda. He was superstitious enough to believe In her story, and paid her substantial fees for offering; up prayers, with the result that he at last became penniless. Meanwhile his illness gradually be came worse and he discovered too late that he was being cheated. WOMEN PREPARE FOR WAR Special Relief Society Would Have All in America Sec Xced. NEW YORK. Aug. 8. The Special Relief Society, of which Mrs. William Alexander is president, announced re cently the beginning of a campaign "to arouse women of America to a full realization of Immediate preparedness" for war. Several members have offered the use of their Summer homes to the Government for hospitals. A list of sewing clubs to prepare garments need ed in the field, Is being prepared. Lists of volunteers for war relief work and nurses available for field and hospital work are being completed. A statement lasued by the society sayi that "If war Is ever to come the mere instinct of self-preservation di rects that women, too, should be pre pared to defend American ideals of lib erty, peace and honor." WIFE SAVES HER RESCUER Husband's Fine Paid in Return for Preventing Her Suicide. PASSAIC. X. J, Aug. S. Mrs. Michael Blana. of 35 Dayton avenue, had her husband in the City Court recently on a charge of cruelty. Judge Thomas P. Costello reconciled them. A few mo ments after they left the building Mrs. Blana attempted suicide by leaping In the path of an Erie passenger train at the Jefferson-street crossing. The husband, babe in arms, pulled her from the tracks and saved her from death.
