Slxth-St. BU(. .;,3 m u V it ' I New Store HHnlL-f Number 1 41Kb Eighteen Under the buildin.fr or dinance of Portland all doors opening1 upon a stair landing: or into an elevator must be fire proof. "Kal amine Doors" are made to conform to this requisite and are a rec ognized essential toward making: a building- fire proof. They have been adopted very generally by architects throughout the country, and are in stalled all through our new building wherever necessary. The outside of these doors is of wood, but it must be a thor oughly kiln-dried, straight grained wood. The wood work is milled the same as a regular door, but not put together. By a very cunning ly contrived method steel mouldings or dies form the center, and the panels have metal cemented upon them with a specially prepared fireproof cement. After be ing pulled through a power ful press the metal clings to the wood smoothly and even ly, forming a barrier to fire and being absolutely impervi ous to water.
