WHEAT LOSS IS SHARP CHICAGO MARKET LOWER BY OVER TWO CEXT5. Carload rates from New York via the Canal to Portland have suffered another decline, the new tariff to be come effective with the sailing; of the first vessel from the Eastern harbor after August 1. Railroad lines an nounced a reduction several weeks ago on certain commodities in the effort to equalize rate charges with the water rates. The American-Hawaiian has changed charges as follows, says 'C. D. Ken nedy, Portland agent, who was advised yesterday: Canned gods, 55 cents to bo cents; horseshoes and nails, 45 to 45 cents; iron, 60 to 50 cents; lino leum and oilcloth, 70 to 50 cents; lawn mowers. 80 to 60 cents; -paint. 60 to 60 cents; radiators, 65 to 50 cents: rope and twine. 60 to 60 cents; barbed I nig Receipts and Sinking of Leelesaw wire, 45 to 40 cents; copper wire, bO to 50 cents; lead-covered wire, 65 to 60 , cents, and plain wire, 45 to 40 cents. Thero are a number of other rates lowered, but those quoted are among the most important. The cut by rail lines not long ago, which gave Spokane a particular ad vantage, because the rail- tariff from the Atlantic seaboard to Spokane was loss than the water tariff from New York to Portland plus the railroad lo cal to Spokane, naturally raised an objection from shippers in this terri tory. The late action of the water lines, being a considerable reduction on some commodities, is expected to offset the shading by the railroads. On the other hand, the move may be actuated to some extent by the fact Are Responsible for Weakness. Drop Conies Late. CHICAGO, July -8.
