DEMAND CHINA VARIETY BEING SOUGHT FOR BREEDING PURPOSES. TV. L. F'lnley, State Biologist, Says . Farmers Could Earn Profit by ' Rearing Birds. The China, pheasant which abounds in far greater numbers in Oregon than in any other state in the Union, is attracting- National attention. Letters of inquiry as to the proper method of breeding: and protection are being: re ceived from all parts of the country by William L. Finley. State Biologist. A letter from the special game pro tector of the State of Pennsylvania has been received lately asking Mr. Finley for a shipment of birds for breeding purposes so that state may be stocked with the famous game bird. The game commission of Pennsylvania is willing cithar to buy the birds, or exchange birds native to the Eastern section of the country for Oregon pheasants. The Fish and Game Commission of Massa chusetts has also written Mr. Finley asking if it would be possible to pur chase China pheasants for the purpose of breeding and Lewis County, Wash ington wants 200 pairs of -breeding birds. Mr. Finley said the requests for China pheasants should influence farm ers throughout the Willamette Valley to make a business of raising them for commercial purposes. According to Mr. Finley the same amount of care is ex ercised in rearing pheasants as is taken in breeding chickens. A little more difficulty, he explained, may be experienced in starting in breeding pheasants but when, they will bring from 4 to $6 a pair it is much more remunerative than chicken raising. From 4000 to 5000 pheasants wiil be diytributed throughout the state from the state game farm near Corvallis this Summer.- ALFALFA BALE IS MAILED Baker Postorrice Handles Kepi lea of Commercial Uundle.
