Our New Store Talks of Interesting Facts Number Eight
The control of the electrical current in our building is handled by a switchboard, located in the engine-room. By this switchboard every liffht and motor in the building
;an be instantly operated as we desire! The switchboard is 40 feet in length and weighs approximately 20 tons. There are 115 different points of distribution throughout
the building where sections of lighting and power can be controlled. From these points of distribution there are 220 switches for the control of the lights all over the build
ing. We have in our engine-room four generators, sufficient capacity to develop 1000 horsepower. The contractors who installed our electrical plant claim that it is the
greatest piece of work west of Chicago and the Mississippi River.

: BOULEVARD IS ADVOCATED
; Peninsula Drive Ordinance Will Be
Presented to Council Soon.
With the annexation of St. Johna
district to Portland renewed activity
: has started in behalf of Peninsula
: boulevard from Killlngrsworth avenue
:and Greeley street along the bluff over-
looking the Willamette River through
'.Lower Albina to Broadway bridge. The
federated Peninsula committee has been
awaiting; completion of the merger be
.fore taking aggerssive steps, and now
' it is planned to take up the matter
.' with vigor. The merging of St. Johns
. will provide a much larger district to
. be benefited by the "cut-off." and con
sequently a bigger district to be as
sessed for the cost of the new street,
materially reducing the cost to the In
dividual lotowner.
The first ordinance establishing Pen
insula boulevard will go before the
Council next Wednesday, according to
plana of the federated Peninsula com
mittee. Cost of the right of way is es
timated at $110,000, but this will be
cut to about $60,000 by condemning tha
old St. Johns wagon road, which the
boulevard replaces. The principal op
position was found along Killlngsworth
avenue by property owners who fear
such a boulevard would divert traffic
from that street.
