COAST STOCKS ARE LOW Export Purchases Made In View of Serious Crop Conditions Abroad. London Cable Reports Xo t Improvement in Prospects. Confirmation of the serious condition of the English hop crop can b found la ths heavy buying for export of spot hops In California. Operations art limited to that state because the only available supply is there. The following cable was received yester day from Manger Henley, of London: Market is very firm. Ko imprsvemeat In crop prospect. At present weather is fine.' The press cable from London gave no change in the price of the best grade Pa cifics since the advance of last Friday, the quotation standing at 100 shillings per cwt, but lower grades were advanced from 75 to i shillings. In the past week 2500 bales of California ops have been bought for shipment to London, up ta 13j cents being paid for the best The entire holdings by growers on th Pacific Coast, Including olds, is now only 00 bales, and it is practically certain these will be worked off before the new crop Came. The largest of the California deals was ths purchase by Wolf of the Hewlett crops of 1914 and 1912 Sonomas, 1313 bales In all. Dflnovan bought 600 bales of Mendoclnos from Blalock. McXeff Bros, purchased the Gerber lot of 100 bales at 8H cents and Horst bought 200 bales of Facramentos from the Del Paso Company at 8 cents. The California contract market has also been more active. Klint contracted with W hite Terry for 200 bales of Sacramentos at 11 cents and Wolf closed Sonoma contracts at 12 cents. No business In the new Oregon crop has been reported lately, but about J0O bales of Western Washington have been signed up at 11 and ll? cents. WHEAT MARKET IJFELESS Trass- Bids Are Made at Reductions, but Sellers Are Firm. The wheat market continues lifcless. The few blda made at yesterday's session of the Merchants Exchange were for the most part st a lower level, but holders were firm and not disposed to make concessions. Bids for spot oats were lower, but there were no sellers for any delivery, nor was any barley offered. One hundred tons of spot bran were sold at 124. Consul Robertson Honey, at. Madrid, writes that American wheatgrowers should be ad vised to watch the market in Kpaln. The newspapers of MadTld comment on the damage do no to the growing crop by the severe rain and hall storms. The June number of the bulletin published by the International Institute of Agricul ture contains the most recent information received at the institute on cereal crop in the Northern Hemisphere. The forecasts re given for certain countries where harvest la already in progress or will soon be com mencing: The production of wheat in lli is esti mated in Italy at S5.OOO.O00 quintals (ll.a per cent of that of last year). In Switzerland at 1,029,000 quintals (116.4 per cent). In the United States for Winter and Spring wheat together at 258,552.000 quintals (IOCS per cent), and in Japan at $,443,000 quintals 109.4 per cent). In the other countries for which informa tion has been received (Bulgaria, France. threat srltain and Ireland, Roumanla. Can ada), although forecasts of the crops are Bet given, conditions are generally favorable for tho coming harvest. More especially Is to oe noted the great Increase this year, compared with 1914, in the area sown to wheat in Canada (5,218,753 hectares, against ,Jb.'.,oos in 1914, or 126.3 per cent). The bulletin contains also Information on crops or flax, potatoes, cotton, tobacco, hops, vines and sugar beets in certain Northern Hemisphere countries, and on the progress of the sericultural campaign in Bulgaria, Italy and Japan. Following the above are come data on the 114-15 crops In Argentina, where, accord ing to a new . estimate, the production of wheat amounts to 45.S50.OO0 quintals (147.S per cent of that In 1913-14), of oats to 3..-10.00O quintals (112.3 per cent) and of linseed to 11, 255,000 quintals (113.1 percent). World shipments of corn for the week were 7,001.000 bushels and of oats 2,445.000 bushels.
