Twelve indictments, one of tbem se cret, and two not tiue bill were re turned by the May Uhited States grand Jury In its final report to Federal Judge Bean at 4:30 o'clock yesterday. Judge Bean then discharged the Jurors. The most important of the indict ments was that against Dominico Grano, owner of a saloon at First and Clay streets, on a charge of testifying falsely in the hearing of Frank Vac cellierl on his final petition for nat uralization papers in Judge Davis' court some months ago. A not true bill was found on a charge of violating the Mann white clave act against J. M. Wise, former member ofthe Portland police "moral squad," who deserted his wife and ran away with Alma Gooding last Feb ruary. They were later located in Seattle, and Wise returned voluntarily to Portland. The Gooding woman was the principal witness against Wise be fore the grand jury, though she ap peared only because she was sub penaed. A not true bill also was found on the charge of robbing the postofflce at Junction City, Or., November 17, 1914, against Thomas Watson, alias Charles Green and Thomas Jepson. The grand Jury found there was not suf ficient evidence against Watson, who has been held in jail several months. Other Indictments were: H. D. Burns, Helmuth Goodman, George Durkee and J. H. McCann. giv ing liquor to Indians, bail fixed at J500 each; Clyde Cooper, Ethel White craft and Thornton Robinson, having habit-forming drugs in their posses sion in violation of the Harrison act. bail fixed at 11000 each; S. B. Stevens, having opium in his possession in vio lation, smuggled over from Canada, bail $1000; Chester Harvey and Mrs. Walter Coffee, having drugs in their possession, bail $500 each; and one se cret indictment. Donovan was found not guilty of alienating the affections of Cecelia Ray by a jury in Judge Mc Ginn's court. A sealed verdict, reached after the conclusion of the case the preceding evening, was read in court yesterday morning. J. E. Ray. divorced husband of the woman, brought suit against Mr. Dono van for $25,000. Mr. Ray said he hoped that he and his wife might have been reconciled until Mr. Donovan hopelessly won her affections. The defendant is a theatrical man and Mrs. Ray has been in his employ. Flegel, Reynolds & Flegel conducted Mr. Donovan's case. Astoria Has Vimsually Dry June. ASTORIA, Or., July 2. (Special.) June was an unusually dry month in Astoria, According to the records in Weather Observer Gilmore's office, the total precipitation during the month was 2.04 inches, or 1.18 inches less man the average for the corresponding month of previous years. Rain fell on 12 days, while there were 18 clear, eight partly cloudy and four cloudy days. The highest temperature was 88 degrees, while the lowest was 46 de grees above zero. In the Arabian desert the sirocco, ct sand storm, often digs pits 2O0 feet deep, acat tprtng the panri for miles around.
