Judge Kavanaugh has accepted an Invitation to deliver the address at the commu nity celebration to be held in Kenil worth Park next Monday. At noon there will be a picnic dinner, and games at 1 P. M. will be held under the di rection of F. E. Harrigan, playground director. F. W. Winnie will have charge of the patriotic exercises at 2 P. M. Mrs. J. R. Tomlinson will read the Dec laration of Independence, which will be followed by Judge Kavanaugh's ora tion. At 3 P. M. there will be a con cert by Campbell's American Band, in cluding a programme by the children under the direction of Miss Irene Lacey. playground director. Owing to the meeting of the Oregon IState Pharmaceutical Association at Gearhart beginning Wednesday, the dates for the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy examinations have been moved up one day and will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 5 and 6, instead of Tuesday and Wednesday. The theoretical work will be conducted at the Woodmen of the World Tem ple, Eleventh and Alder - streets, and the practical work at the college on the East Side. The announcement was made yesterday by R. M. Plummer, of the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy. G. A. R. Ladies Dined. A banquet was given to the department officers of the Ladies of the Grand Army at He-mstock Hall, University Park, Wednesday night by Circle Xo. 25 that was largely attended and which proved a pleasant affair. Members of the or der from other parts of the city and of the Grand Army of the Republic attended. The state officers, to whom the banquet was given, were elected recently at the annual encampment at McMinnville. A musical programme, together with a number of readings, was given. Oregon Associatiox to Elect. A public meeting to complete the organi zation of the Oregon Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis will be held today at 3:30 in Library Hall. Chaj-les M. DeForest, field secretary of the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, will preside. A meeting of the direc tors to elect officers will be called im mediately after the general meeting. Injured Bot Mat Recover. Junior Bale. 6-year-old son of A. J. Bale, man ager of the Pacific Coast Biscuit Com pany, who received a fractured skull when he ran his bicycle into a street car on East Twenty-sixth street June 21. is reported to be partially con scious, and hope is entertained for his recovery. His improvement for the past two days has been steady, say attendants. Medical Inspection Planned. Med ical inspection of the city's Summer schools is to be conducted by Dr. P. J. Payne, a regular school medical inspec tor of the City Bureau of Health. He was assigned to the Summer work yes terday by City Health Officer Mar cellus. St- Lawrence Parish to Picnic. The third annual picnic of St- Lawrence parish will be held on Monday at Costal Lake Park. A large attend ance is expected. John Heitkemper Is chairman of the committee in charge. Dancing, music, refreshment and other attractions will he features. The Bar View Hotel Co. will give a free clam bake on July 3. 4 and 5. Mrs. Eva Grammell, an old resident of Portland, died in Good Samaritan Hospital Tues day at the age of 51 years. Mrs. Gram mell came to Portland 40 years ago, and received her education In the Port land schools. She is survived by her husband, Herman Grammell. The fam ily residence is at 722 Commercial street, Albina. Her surviving children are Mrs. Lillian Thomas, Minnie and Fred Gammell. of Portland, and she leaves the following sisters and broth ers: Mrs. Norah Birch, of Amity, Or.; Mrs. Elizabeth Martin, of LaFayette, Or.; Mrs. Cora Weavers, of Knappa, Or.; Alfred Robbins, of Carlton, Or., and James Robbins, of Toppenlsh, Wash. Funeral services will be conducted from the Rodney-avenue Christian Church tomorrow at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Gammell had been an active member of Oregon Circle, No. 171, Women of Woodcraft, before her health failed, and the mem mers are expected to attend the serv ices. Commissioner Baker to Speak. Com missioners Baker and Blgelow and L. M. Lepper will address the mass meet ing of the Montavilla and Mount Tabor residents tonight in the auditorium of the Montavilla schoolhouse on the pro posed installation of a community cen ter and swimming-pool in Laurelhurst Park. This meeting will be held under the auspices of the Montavilla Board of Trade. Montavilla Parent-Teacher Association and the East Side Business Men's Club. Maps 6t the park will be displayed in the assembly-hall, showing the present plans of development of this park and where it is proposed to install a community center building and swimming-pool, which will be ex plained by L. Field Dat Committee Named. J. J Johnson. Ray W. Gill and J. W. Mills have been appointed by the general Grange committee of 30 members of Multnomah County to make full ar rangements for the farmers" field meet, which will be held at the fair grounds at uresnam July Z4. C B. Lewis, of Montavilla, was made secretary of 'the general committee. This field meet Is not exclusively for Grana-era. hut it for. farmers of this and adjoining coun ties, it will be the first gathering of the sort to be held in this state. The 10 local Granges have agreed to as sume all the expenses, and the pro gramme will include lectures, music and amusements as a means of inter esting larmers in the work of th l' - trons of Husbandry. The sub-committee is now preparing the programme for the meet. Sunntsidb Lodge Consecrated. Sun nyside Lodge. Ancient Free and Ac cepted Masons, which was organized in ana nad been workinsr under a dispensation, was consecrated, constitu ted ana instituted last night by Grand Master Miller, assisted by other grand officers and the officers and members of Imperial Lodge. Officers of Sunny side Lodge were installed after the con secration and the lodge took the num ber 163. Go to Mount Shasta With Mazamas. All persons interested in outdoor life are invited to Join the Mazamas on annual outing and climb of Mount Shasta. Registration can be made at Mazama headquarters, 213 Northwest ern Bank building, to and including July 6. Auxiliary Closes Year's Work. The Auxiliary of the Sellwood Y. M. C. A. closed the past year with a pic nic in Sellwood Park. The programme was informal, including reading, mu sic and some races. The commit tee of the East Side Business Men's Club which had charge of the erec tion of the grand stands and the dec oration of the streets during- the Rose Festival reported receipts from all sources of 647. which Included admis sion to the grand stands and subscrip tion to the decoration of the street, amounting to (51. A city playground win be opened immediately upon the Reed College campus, and playground officials are Inspecting- the place yesterday to learn what is needed in the way of equipment. The campus was offered by the college authorities some time ago for use as a playground and the offer was accepted by the city officials. Some equipment which the college already has will be used by the city, including the tennis courts. Miss Adele Braut and G. H. Oberteuffer will be in charge of the playground. Class to Hear Peace Talk. Miss Grace DeGraff. of the Kenton School and delegate to the peace conference held at The Hague, will address the Current Events Class of 'Westminster Presbyterian Church next Sunday at 12 o'clock, following the morning serv ices. Miss DeGraff will tell about the conference, its results and plans for a world-wide peace movement. Parkwat to Ope Soon. Hillside Parkway, which has been closed for about a week while repairs are being made to the macadam roadway and while the road is beino- oiled, will be opened to traffic within a few days, according to the announcement made yesterday by Park Superintendent Con vill.
