Laden with 20-pound haversacks. 32 boys leave on the steamer Kellogg at 7 o'clock this morning as the first of the parties that will spend the Summer In the Y. M. C. A. boys' camp on the tanks of Spirit Lake in the Columbia Rational Forest. The excursion to-day is the largest first party that has left the association in the seven years' history of the camp. The boj-s will go to Kelso, Wash., on the steamer, travel by automobile to Castle Rock and there start the 47 mile hike into the basin to Spirit Lake. Tonight the lads will camp seven miles out of Castle Rock, and early tomor row morning will start on the first long march of the Summer. They ex pect to reach the association camp Thursday. More than 100 bqys are expected to attend the camp, "leaving in parties July 12. July 19, August 2 and August S. There will be a number of hikes to lakes and mountains around the camp, trius to Mount St. Helens and a dozen other peaks, and long marches through the woods. Candidates for the various offices of the camp governor, Judge, sheriff, prosecuting attorney and councilmen were being groomed yesterday, before the lads started on their trip. The election will be held the first day in camp. The leaders will be: J. C. Meehan. boys' secretary; P. F. A. Boche-, instruc tor, and Harrison Huggins. The tallest boy in camp is Herbert Adams, 19, said six feet four inches. The smallest lad Is Wesley Ranck. four feet four inches. COUPLE ARE EXONERATED G. E. Jefrery Says Goldstanbs Toole Articles With His Permission. G: E. Jeffery, president of the local Musicians' Union, completely exonerates Jack Goldstaub and Marie 'Goldstaub-of the charges of larceny of numerous ar ticles from the Jeffery household for which they were arrested. Mr. Jeffery says he gave the Gold fitaubs written permission to take cer tain articles from his home. Mrs. Jef fery did not know of this, there having been some differences between the 3et- ferys. She caused Ahe Goldstaubs ar "rest. The. books and other articles taken by the Goldstaubs with his permission were to be cared for by them. Mr. Jef fery said yesterday. He said that he would appear in the Municipal Court this morning and ask to have the lar ceny charge dismissed. MR. LANSING IS LAUDED Ti. W. Myers, of Portland, Friend of Xo Secretary of State. Robert Lansing, the new Secretary of State, is well known to Levi W. Myers, of 6S1 East Ankeny street. Mr. Myers recently had some important correspondence with Mr. Lansing. Mr. Myers served as "United States Consul at Victoria, B. C. during Presi dent Harrison's administration, when John W. Foster, Secretary Lansing's father-in-law. was Secretary of State. TRIP TO PRISON ON ALONE Fight Ixst, Seattle Man Starts Un guarded to Begin Term. BELLINGHAM. Wash., June 26. Un successful in obtaining- a pardon from Governor Lister, A. C. Gunn. of Seattle, convicted here a year ago for issuing fraudulent -paper in connection with the purchase of the Sumas State Bank; at Sumas, is on his way without guard to Walla Walja to begin hi3 sentence of from two to 15 years. Gunn has been free on a bond pend ing the appeal of his case to the Su preme Court, where he lost. A week ago the Sheriff started for him with his commitment papers, but returned the papers with the note "not found." Today the Sheriff received a letter from Gunn, saying he was on his way to prison, and asking that the commitment papers be forwarded to the penitentiary. He is expected to arrive in Walla Walla Monday morning. HONOR GUARDS ARE NAMED Descendants of Revolutionary He roes to Watch. Liberty Bell. Five descendants of Revolutionary War heroes have been chosen as addi tional guards of honor for the Liberty bell when it comes to Portland on July 15. They will have prominent places at the ceremonies when the "relic is offi cially welcomed to the city and will be present throughout the period when the-' bell is viewed by the public The men who will constitute this honor guard are: General T. M. An derson. Colonel Henry C. Cabell. Gen eral Charles F. Beebe, Charles H. Thompson and Louis G. Clarke. Mr. Clarke is a descendant of Abraham Clarke, one of the signeres of the Dec laration of Independence. REVENUE AGENT TO LEAVE John A. McCabe Is Transferred to California Division. John A. McCabe, United States In ternal Revenue Agent at Portland, who has had charge of the North Pacific Coast division for the past eight years, has been transferred to San Francisco to take the California division. He left for his new post last night. Mr. McCabe has a host of friends In the Northwest, who will regret his trans fer. He will be succeeded by Revenue Agent B. M Thomas, who has been in charge of the San Francisco division for more than 20 years. -Mr. McCabe will be joined later in San Francisco by Mrs. McCabe and their daughter. Miss Edna McCabe. TOWNS UNITE FOR BRIDGE New Structure May Span Cliehalis River at Independence. CENTRALIA. Or.. June 27 (Spe cial.) A commercial organization em bracing Independence, Rochester, Gate City, Oakville and other towns in that vicinity will be organized at Independ ence tomorrow night. The new club will work for a new bridge across the Chehalis River at Independence, which will serve as an outlet to the settlers on the Indian reservation near there. The settlers have agreed to donate much of the work on the grades and ap proaches to the structure. The Grays Harbor County Commis sioners have agreed that the bridge is a necessity, but the expense will have to be borne jointly by that and Thurs ton County. Pheasants to March at Salem.
