It has Included new business and the taking of lots of wool cold to arrive. Conditions abroad are strengthening. London having recovered part of tho ground lost at the opening of the auction sales, while Australia markets are doing better. In the West, more activity is noted, though in many cases buyers and ellers are still apart. Mill buying con tinues on a high basis in primary markets, nme recent purchases being made at ab surdly dear figures. More interest is be ing shown generally, though the goods sit uation affords no stimulation. IXW BIOS FOR HOPS turned imwn Oregon Growers Ref line to Sell So Near Cost of Production. A number of orders have been received for new-crop hops. They are mostly at 10 and 1(H cents, and naturally growers will not entertain such low bids. The California market is equally quiet. There ts a small Inquiry for spots, but few are offered here. Crop prospects are good at all points on the Oast. Jlepor'lng on the condition of the English hop market, the Kentish Observer says; "The fcJotoUKh market has remained exceed ingly quiet in the absence of any revival of demand. Consumers are very chary of buy lng, but holders are not Inclined to give way, and quotations have been maintained n tho basis of 84s to lo.la per cwt, accord ing to tho description." English dealers' trade circulars say of the market: Thornton ifc Manger The market contin ues quiet; J nut a few lots have been realised lightly In favor of buyers. Most holders maintain a firm attitude. Manger & Henley There has been more lnnuirv the last week, but the. amount of business doing is very small and restricted. Wild, Neame &. Co. There is very little business pa.sh.ns on our market and values remain practically unchanged. W. H. & H. l-o May There has been little more Inquiry during the last week to meet Immediate requirements, but holders and consumers are still watting the govern ment pronouncement on the liquor question Worcester Business in hops on the Wor cester market has been restricted by the uncertainty in the minds of brewers as to the outlook for the trade. The orders com ing through are limited to actual require ments, and they are executed from mer chants' slocks, as no farmers' lots have been weighed on the local market. The Government has Issued a summary of the world's hop crop for the last 3 4 years. estimating the crop of 1!M4. The summary follows : Pounds. 1fU4 (.estimated) ;;r.,u).ono berries ranged in price from To cents to J1.S0 and Florins from 7S cents to $1. Dealings in stocks today ere the smallest of sny full session in over two months, the total turn over barely approximating 210.000 shares. Half the business was transacted in the first hour. Various reasons were offered in explana tion of the stagnant trading, the most plausible one being that speculators as well as investors were awaiting definite devel opments in the foreign situation. The market has been very thoroughly liquidated, and fresh bull or bear ammuni tion is necessary to move it one direction or tho other.
