i Mil SHIP COMING -Mexican to Carry Supplies From Here to Australia. CEREAL DEMAND ACTIVE More Wheat to Move Through Canal to United Kingdom From West Coast, Gralnmen Say, but New Rate May Reduce Trade. Coming to load between 2700 and 2800 tons of grain for Australia on account of M. II. Houser, the Mexican steamer Gen y Pesquelra, & vessel of 2230 tons net register, is due here early In the vreek from San Francisco, where she has been since April 7. when she ar rived from Balboa and way ports. The vessel has been plyine In the lower coast trade under the flag- of the American-Mexican Steamship & Transporta tion Company. The vessel is said to have been en framed at 67s 6d. There is an active demand for wheat, oats and barley in the Australian market, while hay is also being- handled to some extent. The engagement of the coasting steamer Yucatan a lew days ago for the same trade, to load hay and oats, following the fixture recently of the C. 12, for merly the German steamer Wotan, to load at San Francisco, shows an active market. The call results from a crop failure In Australia, and considerable wheat has moved from the Coast. Of 744,93d bushels exported this month from Portland, 282,777 bushels went to Australia aboard the British steamer "Werribee, an Australian coaster, and toe .Norwegian earn Hiawatha. Besides the British steamer Epsom, now under repairs at Eaquimalt and which is expected to come here to be loaded for the United Kingdom by Kerr. Giftord & Co., there is a possibility that the British steamer Crown of Navarre, of the Harrison line, which has been chartered by Balfour, Guthrie & Co. to load grain for the West Coast, may lake some of her load here, although as she ia only 1762 tons net register, and has European cargo for Puget bouna, it is hoped to give her a full outward cargo In the north. The vessel left London March 2 by way of Glas gow and Liverpool, and was reported at La i-anice April 4. That more wheat will move from Portland and Puget Sound through the unai 10 new low on Its way to the United Kingdom, other than that for wnicn apace has been reserved until early in May, Is believed by trainmen who say that so long as there ia ton rage lacking for direct shipments to t-ngiano tne canal service affords an outlet. The volume may be cut down some lr the rate of $8 recently an nounced Is insisted on, it being an ad vance of $1 a ton over the tariff now enecuve. j. uoro w. ism yeateraay that a steamer was available lor new crop. jchicuiuoi iuauinK, out exporters are wary about engaging vessels far ahead at coiner ratpa. Of 132 grain ships loaded at Portland and on Puget Sound for 10 months of the 1914-15 season, there were 90 dis patched from this port and 42 from the northern harbor, according to a statistl cal report issued yesterday by Browi Mctjaoe, stevedores, who say they joaaea in or tne carriers. GLEGY1E JIAKES SMART RTJ Glenroy Is Damaged Seriously and Iay Prove Total Loss. According- to news that has reached the Coast from Vladivostok, the Royal Alan liner liiengryle, which was to have taken a part cargo here but was pre vented owing to labor trouble on Puget bouna, maao tne run across to the Rus sian port in 16 days. She carried some freight that was sent from here by rail. That the liner Ulenroy, which left here Jantary 28 and went on Farindon Shoals April 7. is badly damaged is con tained in late advices from Singapore, where, it is said, part of her crew went to send assistance to the vessel, while Captain Holman, the third officer, three quartermasters ana eight sailors re trained by the ship. It was said that ISO. 1 and No. 2 holds, the engine-room and stokehold were full of water. It has been reported here that the Olenroy was regarded as a total loss. Marine Notes.
