Master Quits Skjold to Clear

On the receipt of confirmation of the
report that the owners are agreeable
to certain war risk insurance details,
the charter of the Norwegian steamer
Christian Bors to ioad grain here for
the United Kingdom on account of M.
H. Houser will be closed. Negotiations
have been practically completed for the
past few days, save for the Insurance
matter.
The vessel is reported having sailed
March 8 from Kobe for San Francisco
with cargo consigned to the Dollar
Steamship Company, which had the
' vessel under time charter and she was
to have loaded lumber here for the
Orient. It is said the owners are anx
ious to return the vessel to her native
waters and for that reason the arrange
ment to load for the united i.ingaom
hrnueht about. She is of 2i8 ton
tii reiriater. and is classed as about
ikA ,lnnt (raniD steamer that has
ont,rpd this harbor. She has made
savcrfli vnm7i from the river.
The Belgian bark Katanga will be
rolposeri from libel at once and her dis
bursements attended, to, according to a
cable message received yesterday by
the Portland Flouring .Mills company
to the effect that funds had been paid
on the other side to offset all charges
against the ship here. They were or

MKVEK NOT TO BE TOWED
Barkentine Leaves Harbor on Way
to Quebec and Xcw Owners.
Refusal on the part of Norwegian
underwriters to accept the risk of the
Norwegian steamer Thor towing the
barkentine John C. Meyer from the
river through the Panama Canal, and
the failure of those interested to ob
tain a tug for the work, resulted in
the announcement yesterday that the
Meyer, which left down with 1.087,995
feet of lumber valued at $10,880, would
sail to her destination. The Thor
is to be started tonight with 3,800,000
feet of lumber for Quebec
There Is another story going the
rounds that In all probability the John
C. Meyer will not be returned to the
Pacific as there is such a big demand
for large carriers in the way of coasters
on the Atlantic side that she probably
will be sold. The vessel belongs to the
Sudden & Christensen fleet and was
bviilt at Tacoma In 1903. She is of 794.04
tons, net register, with a length of
200 feet, beam of 40 feet and depth of
hold of 15.4 feet. Iler lumber capacity
is 1.130,000 feet.
HAWAIIAN NOT FOR LX'MBEIt
American Now Named to Load Full
Cargo on Coast for New Vork.
Compelled to take care of general
eargo offerings on the Taeific side, the
American-Hawaiian line has canceled
a lumber cargo that was to have been
taken bv the Fteamer Hawaiian, due
here April 16 from New York, C. I.
Kennedy. Portland agent for the fleet,
bavins received a telegram yesterday
that the Hawaiian would load for the
return voyage as usual, because of the
rush of freight. She takes snipments
for Norfolk. New York and Boston.
The steamer American, which sails
from New York, April 7. and steams
direct for Portland, being due May 1.
Is to work a. full cargo of lumber for
the return, according to present plane.
It is supposed that a second steamer
will be assigned for lumber when one
Is available, but the company evidently
does not contemplate engaging the
liners regularly in that trade until the
completion of two ships that are to be
ready by the end of the year, built es
pecially for handling the material,
CONCORD XEW DETENTION" SHIP
Old Gunboat Assigned for Quaran
tine Service at Astoria Station.
ASTOUI-VOr.. March SO. tSpccial.)
Ir. lObcrt received official notification
todav frcm Captain Dunwoody. of the
Coast Guard Service, that the old gun
boat Concord, which Is now at Bremer
ton Navy-yard, will be towed to Astoria
soon. The ancient craft is to be as
signed to the local quarantine station
for use as a detention barracks.
The Concord is now nothing but an
old hull, as all the steampipes. the
dynamos and other equipment have
been removed from Iter. Before she can
be used for detentiou. barracks she will
have to be equipped with heating and
lighting plants and the expense of
fitting her up will probably be almost
as much as the cost of erecting suitable
barracks on shore.
Marine Notes.
Among today s arrivals in the harbor
will be the Hiawatha, which is to tow
to Uinnton to discharge ballast and load
wheat for Australia under engagement
to Balfour. Guthrie Company.
Making her Initial trip of the sea
son on the Portland-Tiliamook run in

Ailments of Men
HappilyOvercome
SUCCESSFULLY TRIED BV
MANY.
Undoubtedly the fallowing sug
gestion will work wonders for
that great class of men who,
through dissipation of their nat
ural strength, find themselves in
their ' second childhood" long be
fore the three score and tenal
lotted to life's pleasures and en
joyments are reached.
It is presumed to be Infallible,
and highly efficient in quickly
restoring in "nervous exhaus
tion," weak vitality, melancholia
and the functions.
By taking it at home no man
need be the wiser as to another's
shortcomings, and expensive fees
are avoided.
Lack of poise and equilibrium
in men is a constant source of
embarrassment even when the
public least suspects It. For the
benefit of those who want a re
storation to full, bounding health,
and all the happiness accompa
nying it, let it be stated that the
prescription calls only for three
grain Cadomene tablets, in sealed
tubes with full directions for
self-administration. The tablets
contain no opiates or habit-forming
drugs, so a physician's pre
scription is not necessary. Well
stocked pharmacies supply these
tablets which possess the most
wonderful tonic - invigorating
powers imaginable. The effect of
their use is soon apparent in
new strength and nerve force.
