The last heard from him was in Og den, Saturday, where he tried to cash 10 express money orders of ISO each to which was forged the name of A. P. Ilapin. the sub-agent of the company li.rn. WILLAMETTE SING IS NEAR Classes Invited to Participate in "Freshman Glee," March 18. WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY. Salem. Or., Feb. 10. ISpeclal.) The freshmen of Willamette, University have invited every class to participate in the annual "Freshman Glee" on the night of March 18 in the old chapel auditorium. H. Bowers, president of the freshman class, read the challenge to the student body during chapel hour. The songs are to be written by members of the respective classes. The songs written by each class are conserved in the "Varsity Song Book." which was first edited last year by the graduating class. The Websterian lit erary society is now in charge of ar ranging the new glee songs and put ting them into the varsity book. The members of the freshman class have charge of the decorating work and do nate the glee pennant, which is award ed to the class with the winning song. Following a decision by the State Su preme Court that the terms of office for County Judges elected four years ago expired in four years, instead of six. Geoj-ge llagny, elected County Judge of Grant County at the November election, today took the oath of offlco at Canyon City. Mr. Ilaguy was formerly County Clerk of Grant County, but he made no at tempt to hold the office of County Judge until the case was settled in the Su preme Court. BABE MURDER SUSPECTED Leaving of Infant to Die in Woods Is Laid to Squaw Held. MORTON, Wash... Feb. 10. (Special.) Ida Phillips, of Randle. a :o-year-old Indian gill, was arrested yesterday by Deputy Sheriff Berry, who took her to the county seat, where she likely will be charged with murder. Love and an automobile form the groundwork for a case now in prog ress in the Circuit Court here. Tom Johnson, eheepherder, of the Joseph country, is the plaintiff. May Pearce is the defendant and an automobile Is tne innocent cause of it all. Johnson by dint of much economy became tho owner of a real auto, in which he drove to this city from Joseph some time ago. Here Johnson gave the auto to May Pearce, who, he al leges, had promised to become his wife. Ho learned later, he complains, that she already was the wife of another. Now Johnson wants his auto DacK, and has brought replevin action against A. C. Brace, a real estate man or tnis city, to whose care the auto had been entrusted for safekeeping by May Pearce. Tales of joy rides and showers of affection are set forth by Johnson in his suit for the return of the auto mobile. Johnson says May Pearce failed to live up to her part of the agreement, while she contends that the machine was a straight gift to ner wun no strings attached. Nesiku Bridge Money Wanted. T. Bivin went to Olympia yesterday. The rest of the money is sought in improving tne east ern approach to the bridge. Ashland Levy Value $3,030,873. ASHLAND, Of., Feb. 10. (Special.) A recapitulation of municipal assess ment figures gives Ashland a total val uation of S3.030.875. of which HS0.550 is corporation and $2,591,325 city val ues. This assessed valuation is !', Per cent of total county figures. On this basis, the city is paying a trine more than 140,000 toward the J500.000 bond Issue for Pacific Highway purposes, not to mention interest, as based upon the 1915 schedules.
