Line (o lonsrrt With Southern Pnclflc Proposed to Reach Vaxt Tlmlirr Brit oC County. GOLD EKACII. Or.. Feb. 7. (Special.) I. U. Helm, of tne United States For estry Service, has been in Goll Beach Kttiner tiiua, as to the various resources of Curry County. Chief United .States Forester Graves has recommended that appropriations lie made by Congress to help ii perma nent road improvement in counties where much of the timber has been Included in the Unrest Reserves. Curry County has 64 per cent of Us area in the United States Forest Re serves, and little revenue is derived from it. Chief Forester Graves' Idea is for Congress to appropriate money to assist such sparsely settled counties in road building or other public im provement and refund to the Govern ment any such money appropriated as returns may be derived from the sale of timber later. At a mass meeting held at Gold r.each the plan was discussed and the iinanimoui opinion w;i3 that, should the Government advance the money, it should be used in building a was"" road up Hoirue River and connect with the waKon road at Galee.se and there by civc direct transportation facilities to the Southern Pacific Railway. This, it is believed, would mean a great de clopnieni to all of Curry County, as the proposed n-asrnn road would extend through a hitherto undeveloped tim ber and mineral section. The road. loo. would mean a saving to the I'ostoffice department, as it now pa- large sums of money to con tractors to carry mail over nearly im passable mountain trails. If the Rogue j:iver road were built, it is pointed out. a saving of many thousands of dollars would be realized every year. COLLEGE ORATOR PICKED M. f.
