I Ins May Term. i VANCOUVER. Wash, Jan. 27. (Spe cial.) Edward Gall, who murdered his old-time friend. Otto Ludke. November 20. as he sat near a window in the home of Axel Alvin. was sentenced to life Imprisonment here Tuesday. Gall was one of the chief mourners at the funeral. At first the officers were deceived, but later they wove a thread of evidence about him that it was impossible for him to escape. He was arrested December 20, just a month after the crime. He finally confessed. implicating1 Mrs. Ludke, the wife of the mnrdered man. Mrs. Ludke has been arrested, charged with being an accessory before the fact. She will be tried during the May term of court. Under the law now, it In possible to try an accessory before the fact the same as a principal, there being no distinction. Gall con fessed that Mrs. Ludke ant' he had been "affinities" for a year past and that she kept him informed of the move ments of her husband and suggested killing him. Gall had made an attempt about November 11 to shoot Ludke at a dance hall, but Ludke happened to sit on the opposite side of the room, frustrating his plans. When Gall confessed he expected that he would be hanged or electro cuted and was pleased when informed that the law did not permit the hang ing of murderers. PERJURY CHARGE DROPPED Man Sentenced for Contempt of Court in Skullcap Liquor Case. To save the prisoner from too serious punishment Municipal Judge Stevenson Tuesday allowed V. H. . Snodgrass, whose testimony in a case the previous J;iv led to a charge of perjury being lodged against him, to plead guilty to the crime of contempt of court, for which Snodgrass was sentenced to 10 days in jail. The perjury charge has been dropped. Pnoderass nearly freed a bartender Monday from the charge of selling liiiuor to minora, because he denied that he had worn a skullcap two boys testified he had been wearing when they were In the saloon. When a skull cap was found In. Snodgrass room, the perjury charge was pressed. ATTACKS ON SIGNS FAIL Btreet Labels, Invented by City Of ficial, Prove Success. Boyproof street signs as invented Borne time ago by R. K. Kremers, chief of the municipal bureau of highways and bridges, are a success, according to his report yesterday. It is said that on a certain street in the Mount Scott district, where the usual signs gave way under the attacks of boys within a few days after being put up, tne new type .of sign has survived. The boyproof signs are being made by a sign writer at the City Hall. They are to be used throughout the city. EGG IS 61-4 BY 9 INCHES Tullet Xear Vancouver Sets AVelght Itecord Wltli Quarter Pound.
