(MINISTERS HEAR REPORT
CARSON HEIGHTS CHIRCH STARTS
WITHOUT DEBT.
Nearly flOOO Raised Sunday for New
Building; Father Flinn Opens
Sessions With. Prayer.
The Methodist ministers of the city
met yesterday morning: in the First
Church, Twelfth and Taylor streets.
The principal report was given by the
Rev. J. W. McDougall, superintendent
of the district, who told of the success
of the . church in Carson Heights,
where a new church was- dedicated on
Sunday. The important feature of the
announcement was that the church,
just erected, starts out practically free
of debt.
In the Carson Heights Church, the
Rev. T. W. Atkinson Is pastor. He
recently succeeded Rev. Alfred Bates,
who has gone to Warrenton. At Sun
day's services in the morning, the
dedication was in charge of the Rev.
Mr. McDougall. who preached the
morning sermon. At the afternoon
service, T. S. McDaniel represented the
Layman's City Church Extension So
ciety that had charge of the exercises.
Among the speakers were the Rev.
Mr. Lane, pastor of Centenary Church;
the Rev. A. B. Calder, pastor of Trinity
Methodist Episcopal Church and the
Rev. H. Morris, who preached the first
sermon In the" Carson Heights com
munity for the Methodist denomination.
The evening service was in charge
of the Rev. M. B. Paiour.agaif, Sun
day School missionary, assisted by
ether pastors. Nearly all of the $1000
to pay for the building wrs raised on
Sunday and the Portland churches have
come to the support of the little church
and have made up the balance of the
amount. Father Flinn opened the meet
lng with prayer.
