Four of the tennis players engaged on the turf of the Country Club, of Westchester, In test matches for the selection of the Davis cup team reached the semi-final round today, Harold H. Hackett and R. Norris Williams II coupling In the upper half and W. M. Johnston and Karl H. Behr in the lower section. The contest which overshadowed all others was that In which Johnston, who signalized his arrival from Cali fornia yesterday by beating: William A. Larned, outspeeded R Llndley Murray, the newest of the stars from the Pa cific Coast, by 7-6, 11-9. Williams created great enthusiasm among t,he committee, Wrenn, Adee and Slocum, by a return to his Interna tional form. He toyed with George M. Church, the Princeton star, and won, 6-1, 6-1. (Special.) The city has accepted the Gamewell fire alarm system which was installed last Winter.
