TTTE MORXIXG ORFfJOXTAV, SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 1914. rt v WOOL ALMOST GONE Buyers Secure 1 50,000 Pounds in Central Oregon. SCATTERED LOTS REMAIN Middle of July Will See Entire Clip MoTed Out of State Eastern Market Shows Good' Profits on Early Purchases. The Oregon woo! market Is more bare of supplies on this date than it has been on August 1 In many year past. Everything irlll have been sold and moved out of the state by the middle of July. In the past week buyers have purchased 150.000 pounds at Condon. Madras and scat tered points. There Is now left In Eastern Oregon only about 150,000 pounds. Several buyers are In the L,akevlew section cleaning up the last of the Southern Oregon wool. Un sold stocks In the Valley are estimated at about 60,000 pounds. Values are holding up well, prices paid In the last week being about the same as those current In the preceding fortnight. In the East, firmness still prevails, and ales of Western wools are made at prices favorable to dealers. Another week or two will tell the story, as by that time light weight goods will have opened. About 90 per cent of the territory dtp Is now In sec end hands, and. naturally, everything poa ' alble will be done to sustain the market. Boston will have to move up to show much of a dealera 'profit on some of the later purchases In the West. The scoured cost of some of the high-priced clips bought In Ore gon and Montana has not been approached in the Eastern market on new clip domestic wools. Even ordinary Oregon clips have been bought here at prlcea which mean a clean basis of 57 to 00 cents. Other clips have been so high as to bring out an estimate of 62 to 60 cents scoured value laid down at Boston. Fine staple wools from Western Idaho and Oregon are figured at .61 to 65 cents. An Eastern trade paper sums up the situ ation as follows: It looks aa though the market for woola here la pursuing the course predicted for It some weeks ago. At that time the state ment waa made that the condition of mill atocks waa such that buying of the first arrivals from the new domestlo clip would be rather urgent. By the same token. It wai figured thai the turnover would be re munerative to dealera It transpires that buying of the early-bought supplies from the 1914 clip has been little behind the ar rivals in this market. j "Thua far, moreover, the situation haa been favorable to dealera, fulfilling the fore- casta that the early-bought woola from the West would afford a profit. Other, predic tions of a less favorable nature were made at the same time- aa those noted. The trade Is likely before a great while to have the verdict upon these more pessimistic prog nostications. Mills are supplying themselves nearly as fast as possible, both from do mestic and foreign wools. When their con dition of depletion Is less acute, and the higher-priced woola from the Weat begin to be ahown here, the teat will come." APPLE CROP OF 118 FIGURED OUT Government Estimates It at M Per Cent of That of Preceding; Year. According to the monthly report of the Department of Agriculture, the commercial apple crop of 1913 was considerably leu than in the preceding year, as Indicated by the quantities of apples shipped by rail and water, which amounted to 4 per-' cent - of the shipments for ths preceding season. The greatest falling off was in the North Central States west of ths Mississippi River, where ths movement In 1913 was acsxcely sne-thlrd of that of ths preceding season. STOCKS CLOSE HUM Apprehension Produced Claflin Failure Dispelled. by LONDON'S LEAD FOLLOWED Market Open With General Ad vances, but Fart of Gain Is Ixst Later in Day Tendency of Bond Values Irregular. NEW YORK. June 26. Judging from the relative firmness of today's stock market, much of the apprehension produced In vari ous quarters by the Claflin failure seem to have been dtsuelled. Following London's lead, stocks opened at general advances, the gain In many stan dard Issues extending to over a full point. Much of this was lost before the end of the first hour, when fresh liquidation, due to rumors dealing- with Lehigh Valley and the Government, caused a loss of about nan the advance. Some of the special stocks, which have been subject to unfavorable condition, were again depressed. United Dry Goods preferred, the holding corpora tion of the Claflin Company, fell another 13 points to 63, but rallied more than half its loss before -the close. Wells-Fargo Ex press, which yesterday suffered a severe reduction In its dividend, lost six points and American Express one and a half. The market closed strong. There was another gold export engage ment of $1,000,000 in spite of a further rise in exchange, and forecasts of the weekly cash movement. Indicating a loss of $6,- 000,000 to f 8,000,000, bore directly on this situation. The bond market was irregular, with heaviness In some of the low-priced issues. Including- International Pump. Total sales, par value, $2,170,000. United States bonds were unchanged on call. CLOSING STOCK QUOTATIONS. Reported by J. C. Wilson St Co.. Lewli building Portland. Closing sympathy with lower cablre.
