The Woman's Home Missionary So clety of the Oregon conference of the Methodist -Episcopal Church met In Albany today for its 28th annual con- vention. More than 60 women from outside of Albany, representing many different sections of the state, were present at the opening session. The convention will conclude tomorrow nttrht. The convention opened in the Firs Methodist Church here this morning with a devotional service, led by Mrs. ' J. C. Rollins, of Corvallis. and the visiting delegates were welcomed by Mrs. J. S. Van WinKle, or tnis city. Mrs. Fletcher Homan. of Salem, presi dent of the society, responded to the address of welcome. Most of the remainder of the fore. noon session was devoted to business. Tteports were made by Mrs. E. C. Cor Melius, of Salem, corresponding secre. tary; Mrs. K. P. Staples, of Portland, conference treasurer, and the following district secretaries: Klamath district Xm. W. Hood, of Grants Pass; Eugene district. Mrs. A. ft, Nichols, ol cor vallis: Salem district. Mrs. H. M. soutn wick, of Salem; Portland district, Mrs. II. C Parham, of Portland. A feature of the day's session was a worker's conference and question box which was conducted by Mrs. F. J. Hard, of Eugene. Talks were made this afternoon by Mrs. Fannie Penn, of Salem: Mrs. I G. Starks.ssof Portland; Mrs. E. J. Swaf ford. of Salem, and Miss Greer, of Forest Grove; Mrs. Clark, of Salem, cave a whistling solo, and Mrs. H. I. Hansen, of Portland, conducted "An Hour With the Queen Esthers. Dr. H. S. Wilkinson, of Eugene, was the leading speaker at tonights ses Eton. SIX DIVORCES ARE GRANTED Cruelty and Desertions Assigned as Cause of Complaints. Six divorces were granted yesterday, three by Judge Gatens, two by Judge ICavanaugh and one by Judge McCrinn. The cases in which decrees were Era n ted were: Emma Sands from George H. Sands on the ground of cruelty. Mrs. Sands will resume her maiden name ot looie. She married Sands in Portland. August 26. 1907. Mary J. Toung from William J. Young on ground of cruelty; Mrs. Toung given custody of two minor children and 20 a month; married in Fort Dodge. Ia.. December 14, 1899. C E. Robinson from George B. Hobinson on ground of desertion Au g-ust 15, 1912; married in Martines- Cal.. June 7. 1909. Anna Schlefar from Morris Schlefar on ground of cruelty; given custody or minor child and $17.50 a montn; mar ried In Portland December 31. 1911. Grace Tindall from Thomas H. Tindall on ground of cruelty; given custody of minor child and S17 a month; married in Multnomah County January 23. 1911. "Walter J. Wolfe from Effie Wolfe on ground of desertion in February. 1911; married in Mound City, Kan., May 4, 1S98. YOUNG WOMEN NEED'HOMES Places for Five Girls Sought by Mu nicipal Bureau. L The Municipal Bureau for the Pro tection of Women has five young women between the ages of 16 and- 20 years who need homes in good families. These girls are regarded as promis ing, have good health, and have given evidence of their intentions to make erood members of society. They are ready to give their services for a mod erate compensation. Homes are de Hired for them where there are no young people and where some interest will be taken in their worn ana injneir recreation. Young couples having chil dren and living in their own homes, rather than in hotels or apartments, are preferred. Persons Interested are requested to address the Bureau for Protection of Women. Portland, and a representative of the department will call upon them In their homes.
