At Sacramento Portland 8, Sacramento 3. v At Los Angeles Los Angeles 11, Venice 1. At Oakland Oakland 2, Haa Francisco 1. : SACRAMENTO, Cal., June 19. (Spe cial.) Southpaw Harry Krauae, who, lor the last two years, has time and again seen the Sacramento Wolves lead his little groat all around the field, had his first revenge of the season to day, winning his first 1914 game from tbo Wolves, and his second game in the last two years. Last year the Wolves beat the Beaver portsider four times and loet to him once; this year they had beaten him twice before he put over bis first win. Eight to three was the toll of Port land's victory today, and in the run col umn lies the story of the difference between hitting In the pinches with perfect fielding, and wasted hits with a few costly errors thrown in. With Dutch Klawitter just recover ing from a badly Inflamed eye. which has kept bim from getting his share ' of work and the Dutchman is not at EV HARRY his best unless he gets plenty of work perhaps the Beavers did not find much of anything; In the pitching line to fool them. Whatever the alibi might be, the Wolves were beaten after the third Inning and the game dragged along with little In the way of inter est injected. . Beavers' Hits Count. The Beavers made nine of their 10 hits figure In the scoring; the Wolves wasted five of their 10 hits. The Beavers made seven of their 10 hits when men were on the bases; the Wolves made four of their 10 hits with men on. The Beavers played errorless ball be hind Krause and were full of pep; the Wolves made one error behind Klawit ter and one behind Kremer and seemed to be affected by the sultry weather, their work lacking the snap of the first three days of the week. Only two errors were charged, but there were several other places where there was room for doubt, and the boys who think that a ballplayer should grab everything will probably have a nice time pointing out where three or four more boots should have been charged. Oosae Knocked Unconscious. ' Buddy Ryan. was called away by a .message telling of his mother's seri : ous illness: Walter Doane was knocked unconscious for three minutes in the second frame when his head got tan gled Tip with one of Dutch Klawitter's - fast shoots, and- Bobby Davis filled the vacant berth in right field. Walter McCredle, tiring of Idleness enforced by his term of suspension and de claring that he could not find a com fortable place to sit in the grandstand, left town for the south to get a line on the Angels. .. . Machine Not Impaired. But even with their machine thus de prived of three important cogs, the Beavers found no trouble in putting over runs in the three innings .that ' they registered hits. The Wolves hit safely in seven . innings, but could .' score in only' three. ' Moran's double and steal of third and Hallinan's single put over the' first Wolf run in the second. Orr's double and Tennant's single counted another in the third. A walk, Hallinan's sacri fice and Hannah's single ended the Wolves' scoring with their third run in the fourth. In the third inning Billy Orr perpef trated his -first error of the season on the. home lot., Orr let Brennegan's irrounder go through him. By the time Moran had. run iu from, the field and retrieved the ball, Brennegan had Hounded to second. Bancroft's double 'off the right field wire, a walk to Dor rick, and singles by Rodgers, Davis and Speas counted four runs and chased Klawitter to the bench. Derrick Hits Triple. Kremer was hit in only two of the remaining innings, but each time the hits meant runs. Bancroft's double and Derrick's triple counted one in the fifth. Infield singles by Derrick and Rodgers, a sacrifice by Davis, and bipeas' single followed by a passed balf, Hansiah's throw to an uncovered base, and an Infield out added four more runs. Score. MURPHY. today, poling the ball to the farthest corner of the lot and making four bases, two Spokane runners on the sacks scor ing ahead of him. It was enough to dismay any pitcher, but the Portland twirler stuck to his knitting. The other runs were made by hard and se quential hitting of the Spokane huskies, who were more than cheered by the pitching of Hughes and the lucky stabs they made at grounders. Final score: Portland 0, Spokane G. Portland's best chance to score was In the fourth inning, when Hausman got on because he let the ball hit him. Haworth hit for two bases, but Haus man hesitated to take a chance on an extra base and was stranded at third. The same situation presented itself for Portland In the" third, but the Spokane fielders handled the ball so fast from the outfield that a dash for home would have been suicidal. Barring the first inning, the battle was pleasant to look upon. The play was sharp at all times, and brilliant in a number of tnnings. Hughes became confident in the latter part of the game and retired his opponents in one, two, three order. With runners on the sacks for Spokane, Portland tightened as if the game were to determine a cham pionship. The fans are handing the palm to Nick Williams for playing splendid ball under, adverse, circum stances. Score: . Portland I Spokane J Jt o A r.
