(Special.) Co-operative cannery, the
preparing and marketing of farm pro
duce. Interstate fair in Clarke County,
Washington : tho Portland public mar
ket and other topics were discussed
at an all-day meeting of Multnomah
County Pomona Grange yesterday.
More than 250 Grangers from Mult
nomah and Clarke counties attended.
Mrs. S. E. Windle. lecturer, had charge
of the programme.
H. E. Davis, of the G res ham Fruit
growers' Association, told of the plans
of that organization for the establish
ment of a co-operative cannery at
Gresham this Fall.
H. S. Wilson, of the Oregon Agri
cultural College, talked on "Oregon's
Backwardness in Preparing and Mar
keting Farm Products." and urged ac
tion along this line. Professor French,
of the Agricultural College, emphasized
the need of skilled-direction and in
struction to farmers, and said that the
Oregon Agricultural College was ready
to send out to the farmers of Mult
nomah County an expert who would
, give Instruction In intensified farming
and cultivation of land.
J. E. Stansberry, fruit inspector, re
ported that 1100 sacks of diseased po
tatoes from California, had been con
demned and sent back to that state.
K. W. Gill, manager of the Portland
public market, declared that the mar
ket is a complete success
George P. Larsen asked farmers of
Multnomah County to take part in the
Clarke County fair September 7 to 12:

Resolutions eulogizing Gaylord H.
Patterson, until a few days ago dean
of Willamette University, were adopted
by the senior class of the university
today. As the result of dissensions
among the faculty the board of trus
tees declined to reappoint Professor
Patterson, and gave Dr. Fletcher
Homan, president of the college, a
year's leave of absence. The resolu
tions. In part, are as follows:
"And whereas. We have found him
to be a master of the subjects in his
departments of Bible and social sci
ences, a teacher of marked ability, crit
ical but constructive in his teaching,
and of positive Christian character; and
"Whereas. We believe that he had
the welfare of the students and the
university deeply at heart, and has
been untiring in his efforts to promote
the interests of both; therefore, be it
"Resolved, That we. the class of 1914.
express our appreciation of Dean Pat
terson and his work in Willamette Uni
Terslty. and deep regret at the sever
ance of his relations with the school."

Irrigation Delegates Appointed.
OLTMPTA. Wash, June IS. (Spe
cial.) Governor Lister has appointed
Ira P. Englenart, a prominent North
Taklma attorney, and E. F. Benson, of
Tacoma. president of the State Irriga
tion institute, as representatives of
this state on the joint committee of
Western states to consider Irrigation
problems. This committee was pro
vided for at the Irrigation Congress
and Western Governors' Conference,
held at Denver, last April.
