BY ROBCOB FAWCETT.
Alexander's home run was about the
enly noise Oakland made yesterday
against Higginbotham. On the other
hand. Portland found three Oak pitch
ers easy, and the locals won the second
of the week a free-hitting affair,
which ended 11 to 2.
Six of these tallies were earned by
the Beavers, and the philanthropic
Oaks donated the other five. Middle
ton and Cook were the chief donors.
Mlddleton got his fingers . on the
damp side of one of Prulett's "spltters"
In the rambunctious fourth Inning and
overthrew third eo far that he had the
' spectators In the grandstand ducking.
Two or three runs waddled across
on the heave, and Cooke helped In a
couple more of the seven by erratic
throwing.
Oaks' Captain Ousted.
The Oak captain finally fell back
upon his vocal organs for assistance
and for his pains Umpire Phyle or
dered him off the sward In the eighth.
Cook's chief kick was over a stolen
ibase decision at second base on Bill
Rodgers.
Perhaps he was right and perhaps
not. At- any rate' It counted for Bill,
and three stolen bases during the
melee boosted Rodgers' base-stealing
far in the lead over rival Coast League
dryads.
While the Oaks nicked Higginbotham
for 10 hits, as against 14 from the
combined deliveries of Prulett, Chris
tian and Ramey, they didn't seem to be
able to circumnavigate the bases.
Double plays and Doane were Chiefly
responsible for the skimp In the run
market.
Doane's Hridwork Comtta.
Doane's role In the interesting drama
was unusual and worthy of some com
ment as well as commendation. Due to
his nimble headwork the Oaks emerged
vlth the unique record of having poled
two bang-up doubles In one inning
without scoring.
Doane bluffed a prospective catch of
Kaylor's slam high against the right
field fence in the eighth, and held Mld
dleton on second base so long that the
best he could do was .third after the
denouement.
Bo there you are twa two-baggers
and no score.
Lober was the only Beaver who went
httless and the opposition walked him
- - twice. Bancroft led the bombardment
with three hits, one a three-bagger
which Kaylor tried to scoop. Dave also
performed nlftlly In the field.
No space during Festival week for
details except to say that the Oaks led,
2-0, until the fateful fourth when Port
land whaled out six hits and scored
even of the 11 tallies. Those con
cerned were Ryan. Rodgers and Fisher
with singles, Higginbotham and Der
rick with doubles, and Bancroft with a
triple.
850 See Game.
Also Prulett hit one and walked one
and gave way to Christian after two
were out. Manager Tyler stopped the
Beavers short but stuck . to his task
only three Innings, as Quinlan batted
for him in the eighth. Ramey finished.
It was ladies' day, and a crowd of
nearly 8500 was on hand.
Today's game will commence at 3
o'clock and a double-header will be
played Sunday commencing at 2 o'clock

VICTORIA. B. C, June 10. Victoria
and Portland, divided a double-header
here today, the Colts taking the first,
4 to 1, on superb pitching by Callabap.
and. the Bees winning the second In the
first Inning oft Brown, 3 to 2. After a
shaky start. In which he allowed two
hits,
Victoria hitless for the rest of the full
eight Innings. At the bat himself,
however, Callahan starred also, getting
two out of three times up. Murray got
a three-bagger and McKune hammered
out a homer In the first game. Callahan
struck out seven and Narveson five.
In the second game Smith, for Vic
toria, was in hot water much of the
time, but brilliant playing by his team
mates pulled him out the victor over
Spitball Roy Brown, who allowed but
seven hits, but was forced to take the
defeat. Brown was Invincible as -. a
matter of fact after the first Inning,
when three runs got across. He struck
out seven, but his three walks were
blotches on his good work and costly.
Nick Williams got a home run. Scores:
