Roso Festival week always Is the
occasion for numerous conventions
Jn Portland and this year Is no excep
tion to the rule.
At least 10 g-atherings that will at
tract visitors from various parts of the
state and the Northwest are scheduled.
Other and unreported conventions may
be on the programme.
Several of these meetings opened
yesterday. The Oregon Optometrists'
are holding their sessions at the Im
perial Hotel. A' large attendance is
reported. The meetings will continue
today.
The Northwestern Music Teachers are
meeting at the Multnomah Hotel.
Teachers are present from various parts
of the three Nortwestern states. The
meetings will continue today and most
of the visitors will remain here for
the festivities of Ihe week.
Scores of electrical contractors from
many cities In Oregon are attending
the second annual convention of the
Oregon Electrical Contractors' Associ
ation in the Pittock block. Several
meetings are planned for today.
Insurance Agents .Come Today.
The state's leading threshermen are
In session In Woodmen Hall, East Sixth
and East Alder streets, and are hold
ing profitable meetings. They will con
tinue their sessions today.
Nearly 60 agents of the Columbia Life
A; Trust Company, from the principal
Northwestern cities, accompanied by
their families, will arrive here today
for their fourth annual "gathering.
Portland is the home ofice of the com
pany. The meetings will be held In
the Imperial Hotel.
The programme has been arranged
so that the business sessions will not
conflict with the principal entertain
ment features of the festival week.
Ample provision has been made' to pro
vide accomodations for the visiting
agents and their families at all the
parades and other spectacular demon
. Btratlons. W. M. Ladd. president of
the company, will make the principal
address at today's meeting. A ban
quet will be served- on Thursady.
Osteopaths of State Meet Friday.
Osteopathic physicians from all parts
of the state will assemble at the Mult
nomah Hotel on Friday for the annual
convention of the Oregon Osteopathic
Association. Many delegates already
are coming here to enjoy the festival
entertainments. An effort Is being
made to bring the National convention
of osteopaths to Portland In 1915.
An Important meeting Is that sched
uled In the the office of the State Com
missioner of Labor, 250 1-2 Third street,
beginning at 9 o'clock Thursday morn
ing. It is the quarterly meeting of
the Btate labor bureau. Important dis
cussions are scheduled. Among the

Masons' First Session la Tomorrow.
C. H. Gram, deputy state labor com
missioner, will review the work of the
bureau for the current quarter. O. P.
Hoff, state commissioner of workshops
and lactones, will preside.
The sixty-fourth annual communlca
tlon of the grand lodge of Masons will
be held In the Masonic Temple, West
ra.rK. ana Yamhill streets, on Wednes
dey, Thursday and Friday. Headquar
ters for delegates will be at the Im
perial Hotel. A large attendance is
expected.
The state convention for the Order
of Eastern Star will be held In the Ma
sonic Temple, beginning today and con
tinuing for three days. Many dele
gates arrived yesterday.
The Republican State Central Com
mittee will meet today. Committeemen
from every county in the state are ex
pected. Plans for the forthcoming
campaign will be outlined. It Is prob-
hdio mat most of the visitors will re
v main for the week's festivities.
Orenco Schools Closed.
ORENCO. Or., June 8. (Special.)
The Orenco public schools closed Fri
day, but the final exercises of the
eighth grade pupils will not be held
until Friday, June 19, in the Presby
terian Church. The class consists of 13
pupils, four girls and nine boys. At
special school meeting in April It was
decided to add a ninth and tenth grade.

pal, having already served two years
In that capacity. He will again have
charge of the seventh and eighth grades,
C. F. Grover, for the past two years
principal at Dilley, will have charge o
the added ninth and tenth grade work
Miss Edith Pechin of the fifth and sixth

Royal Rosarlans, the official escort
to the Queen and the official enter
taining body for visiting delegations
to the Rose Festival, met at the Com
mercial Club yesterday and completed
their preparations for the part they
are to play in the big fete that begins
this morning.
Headquarters for the Rosarlans
have been Installed in the first floor
of the Commercial Club building and
badges and other material needed by
the committeemen will be Issued there
during the week.
Other organizations have established
headquarters in various parts of the
eity, appointed committees and are
prepared to co-operate with the
Rosarians in entertaining the visitors.
The Rosarians have 25,000 visitors'
ribbons which will be distributed.
The Prince Regent yesterday Issued
the following schedule under which the
Rosarian committees, the band and the
membership at large will work during
the Festival:

Rosarians and band assemble at Fourth and
Main streets at 5:45 to meet visitors.
7:80 P. M. Take special trolley from First
and Alder streets for Oaks. Fulldress ball.
Rosarians wear full dress, shirt band and
medallion. The Cherrlans advise 'they do
not expect to attend the ball. Therefore,
the Rosarians who do not go to the ball
are expected to assist Chairman Hyland to
entertain the Cherrlans. -
. Radiators Arrive Friday.
Friday, 10:00 A. M. Assemble at Commer
cial Club. March with band to Tenth and
Alder streets. Meet Radiators. Escort them
to their position in line of parade. Then
take position. Cherrlans who already are
in town will likely meet Radiators and all
three organizations march to the positions
In parade.
Immediately after parade march to Com
merclal Club for luncheon as guests of Com
merclal Club. Wives of Radiators and Cher
rlans will meet at club and will be taken
for auto ride after luncheon.
8:SO P. M. Electric parade. Guests of
Rosarlans should be In the stand at 8:00 P.
M. In order to secure seats. The bands of
the Radiators, Cherrlans and Rosarians will
be there. After the parade the entire party
will march to Festival Center for a carnival
of mirth and confetti-throwing.
Orient School Closes.
Closing exercises of Orient School
were held in the Pleasant Home Metho
dist Church last week. Ruth Wheeler,
Valborg Lars en, Lydia Waybill. Ray El
liott and Vina Anderson were promoted
from the eighth grade. E. H. Whitney
delivered the address. ' Vina Anderson
delivered the class oration.
D. C. Rodenbaugh, sheriff of Union
County, Ohio, suffered from chronic
constipation resulting in sour stom
ach, headache and nervousness bor
dering on a general break down. He
is now sound and well thanks to

ACADEMY HAS CLASS DAY
Programme Is Replete With; Inter
esting Features by Students.
Yesterday was Class day at the Port
land Academy. The programme was
well presented and was replete with
interesting features. Henry . Ladd,
president of the class, was in charge
of the programme. Miss Elizabeth
Boyd read, the entertaining class
prophecy. The class poem was the
clever offering of Miss Dorothy Collins.
Henry Ladd read a well-written "Class
History and Lambert Wood won
laurels in his "Class Roast."
The class song was a beautiful part
of the entertainment. It was written
and set to music by Miss Marguerite
Templeton and was sung by the senior
girls of the Olee Club.
Yesterday's event was only one of
the chain of delightful affairs that are
being enjoyed by the young people of
Portland Academy's graduating class,
On June 1 they were entertained by
the juniors, who dispensed hospitality
by means of a Jolly boating party. On
June 5 the Senior Prom was held in
the school gym and was voted one of
the most brilliant social affairs of the
month. The class picnic will be given
on Friday, when once more the stu
dents await a happy day's outing.
