KTRAWfiKKRV RKCKirTS ARE HEAVY Good Shipping Order Pi-event Market lVom Deiug 8wampd. Kecei p ts of Oregon berries were very heavy yesierday and but for a good shipping trade the market would have been swamped. Prices ranged from 75 cents to $1.25 a crate. Unless there Is rai soon, it will be only a matter of about lO days more for. the crop, as without moisture the fruit will soon become small in size and scarce. Next week will be the big week in the strawberry trade and prices will then be at the bottom. Persons intending to pur chase fruit for canning would do well not to delay. Cherries were in fair supply. Royal Anns " celling at lo cents loose and at $1.50 a box. A few loganberry shipments arrived from California and were offered at $1.50 a crate, but the demand was small. Apricots sold well at $2.25 a box. Lemons were strong t $5b5.50. Cucumbers were received from Marys Tille and offered at $1.75 a box. The warm weather- has brought on large receipts of local asparagus, which was weak at 90 cents to $1 a dozen. Shipping business In the potato line has ended for the season. The stock remain ing will be needed for local consumption. EASTERN AVOOL TRADE IS EXCITED Manufacturers Are Taking New Territory Clip In Original Bags. Wool values tend strongly upward at Boaton. as well as in the West, according to mail advices received from the Eastern city. A feeling of excitement prevails . throughout the wool trade, the Influence of London being particularly noticeable. Re ceipts of new-clip territories at Boston are increasing, but they have not yet reached such proportions as to allow sales to rival those of foreign grades. Eastern buyers continue to take clips in the West at prices which considerably exceed those of a year ago. The competition now is not only for wool on the sheep's back, but it is keen for staple already shorn. Manufacturers are taking the new terri tory clips m the original bags rather than wait at all for grading. Sales have been confined largely to Utah and Arizona clips the past week. The sale of about 150,000 pounds Utah wool is announced by one house, at 19 to 22 cents In the grease. This is the largest individual transaction di vulged, but other dealers have made good turn-overs of early shorn Utah and Arizona wools. The scoured basis is estimated at 63 to 55 cents. A fair movement of Nevada wools, on an estimated scoured basis of 55 to 57 cents, also is noted. WHEAT CONTRACTING HELD IX CHECK Situation It Complicated by Course of East em Market. The wheat market was dull and almost nominal in price. No contracting of the new crop was reported, although at this season of the year this branch of the busi ness is usually active. Dealers are up In the air on the subject of new wheat prices and are not disposed to take any chances. With a big Northwestern crop in sight they figure that wh,eat should be cheap, but the recent course of Chicago and Liverpool, which have been affected by the crop scare in the. Middle West, have complicated the situation. Oats and barley also continue dull. There w as some talk of business in oats at $22 to $22.25. Local receipts, in cars, were reported by the Merchants' Exchange as follows: Wheat Larley Klour Oats Hav -m onuy .... '1'iifStia.y . . . . Wednesday . . DROP OF CENT AND HALF Relief From Spread of Hessian Fly Damage Is Promised Selling Pressure Finds Pit Bare of Orders Coarse Grains Weak. CHICAGO. May 21. Rain In Kansas and Nebraska, with a prospect of showers over the entire Winter crop belt, despatched to day for the time being the fear that HeHsian fly damage would become worse. The mar ket closed heavy, lh to IVic under last night. Corn lost y, to 74c net and oats Tic to llsSlHc. In provisions, the outcome varied from 2Hc decline to an advance of 7c. Rain at various points, with a chance ol further moisture and coolness, had a bear ish effect on the wheat market. Greatly increased selling pressure caught the pit al most bare of orders to buy. Favorable crop reports which came from the western half of Kansas made the weakness more pro nounced. The close was heavy. Corn weakened with wheat and as a result of signs that arrivals next week would be considerably enlarged. Bullish Argentine ad vices appeared to have lost their force. Oats broke sharply In consequence of bet ter weather for the growing crop. Belief was fairly well restored that the yield would be normal in amount. Provisions were but little changed.
