The combination of Bancroft and Derrick was too much for the An gela today, ana as a consequence Port land took the Monday event. 5 to 4. Between the two of them, Bancroft and Derrick batted in all of the Bea vers' runs, the former slamming out two triples in his first two trips to the plate, following with two. singjes, and Derrick hit for-a homer in the third, driving Bancroft in ahead of him. Both Musser and Martinoni were .yanked at critical stages, the Angel heaver going out in the third- just after Derrick's big slam. Martinonl was called to the bench in the seventh, when for a few moments it looked like a bad, storm was brewing, but Hi West proved equal to the emergency and : stopped the onslaught Just in time, Ryaa Steals Secosi. Bancroft began the performance with a triple down the right field line, and counted when Doane flew to Woiter. " Ryan singled in the second and stole second. Kores fanned. Lober watted it out, and when Fisher doubled. Lo ner was off with the crack of the bat. Ryan Bcored easily, but Lober was go- ing so fast ho could not hit third with his feet, and was called out. Marti noni fanned in the third and Bancroft picked out his second triple. Derrick's swipe then came in the shape of a low liner to left. Ellis came in, the ball got past him and tolled to the fence, an easy home run. This settled Musser and Perritt took the job. Not until the seventh, when Fisher sineled. did the Beavers score again. Martinoni forced Fisher at second, but Bancroft's single sent the pitcher to third, and. Derrick's single scored him. West Is Safe Relief. The Angels got two in the fourth on three hits and Martinoni's error, but in the seventh they sent a chill up Mc- Credie's spine. Sawyer struck out. Johnson walked and took second on Brook's infield single. Perritt's single scored Johnaon, and put Hrooks on V third, Perritt sneaking to. second when .'Fisher dropped the throw to catch Johnson. With things thusly, it looked, good 1 for the Angels, but McCredie yanked Martinonl and.. West came in. - He 4 walked Woiter, filling the bases. Page ' tried hard, but could only force Woiter ', at second. Brooks, however, scoring on . , the play. Vltni things up to Alaggert, ; he flew out to, Lober.
