Passes Away at Home.
VANCOUVER. Wash.. May 8. (Spe
cial.) Martin Aagaard, past SO years
old, and father of O. B. Aapaard, Kep
resentative in the la at session from
this county, died at his home near La
Center yesterday. After coming to the
United States from Norway in 1880 he
lived two years in Mexico, one year in
Chicago and then came to this, county
taking- up a homestead and making; his
home here since.
He is survived by a wife and seven
children, three livinjr in Norway and
four at Highland. Wash, who are
Anna Aagraard, Antone Aagaard, O. B.
Aapraard and Mrs. Hannah Sorenson.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 1
o'clock.
ElTtSBNE, Or., May 8 (Special.) A
completed railroad grade between Eu-
fiene and Coos Bay will be finished
this week and rails will be laid to
Marshfield early in 1915, according to
H. P. Hoey, Southern Pacific engineer
in charge of the Willamette Pacific,
who returned la3t night from an in
Hpection trip. One thousand men are
nt work and this number is to be in
creased as fast as men can be shipped
In. Mr. Hoey was accompanied by W.
1 1. Fountaine. assistant engineer.
Mr. Hoey bases his Ixopen on the
statements of the contractors. The
prade is now completed to Acme and
rails are laid to a point 35 miles west
of. Kufrene Trains will reach tide
water from Eugene this Summer, ac
cording to present plans. The larger
bridges across the Stuslaw. the Ump-
qua and Cobs Bay are factors which
much be counted upon to bring the

tramway and lake system of transpor
tation between the Sluslaw and the
Umnn.ua rivers. It is similar to trans
portation devices used by contractors
on the Canadian Pacific, and makes
unnecessary the construction of high
ways over which to move supplies to
the construction camps.
The supplies are broucrht from Slus
law vessels and loaded on narrow
cause tram cars, which are elevated
by cable up a mile incline to the top
of the hills, and run over a narrow-
eauge road to a string of lakes. The
railroad camps are built on barges.

working on both ends of four tunnels.
No. 7 being 4300 reet long. The crew
from the north is 1000 feet under
pround and boring 300 feet a month.

VANCOUVER, Wash., May 8. (Spe
cial.) Articles of incorporation have
been filed by the Klickitat Northern
Railroad Company with a capital stock
of $100,000. divided into shares of $100
each. The incorporators are F. A. Ben
nett, F. A. Kidson and A. L. Miller.
The company proposes to build J
railroad to tap the heavy timber belt
between Lyle and Goldendale. the line
running In a northerly direction from
AVright'8 Station on the North Bank
Road towards Camas Prairie. The
principal place of business is to be
Vancouver and the life of the company

GRANTS PASS, Or., May 8. (Spe
cial.) Men and teams were put to
work today on the proposed railroad
between here and Crescent City. Work
will be upon the right-of-way at the
south end of the railroad bridge com
pleting the grade where the new
right-of-way Intersects the Riggs road
which was purchased recently by the
city.
It is the purpose of the crew to
change the curve of the road so as to
lessen the grade and to make ready for
the rails from the river on to Wilder-
ville.
