Port A t Sacramento Sacramento 6, San Fran- C' At Oakland Oakland 7, Venice 1. I.OS ANGELES. Cal.. May 7. (Spe cial.) Krve Higginbotham lost one ol the hardest-pitched grames ol nia ca rear today when the AntrelB, with Mus Eer working in a wonderfully improved manner, beat the Beavers Z to o. It was a struggle between Higgin botham and Musser from the drop of the flag until the wire was reached, and the castoff American Leaguer quit the day with the satisfaction of seeing but three of the enemy get to second base, and none beyond that line. Besides losing. ILigginbotham also had it rubbed into him by his old-time foe. the photographer. During the fourth frame a venturesome snapshot artist attempted to get the husky Beaverite while in action, but instead got a good slam on the jaw with Hig's heavy glove. Higginbotham turned just in time to see the photographer "getting set" and quick as a flash let go his glove, catching the fresh young man squarely on the jaw. According to Hig, it's the hardest kind of luck for any pitcher to have his photograph taken while playing in a game, and the wisdom of his reasoning turned out well, for he lost. Portland had just two chances to score, when a single would have meant runs, but in neither instance could the next man up get to Musser. In the second, with two gone, Lober doubled and Davis walked, but was immediate ly caught asleep off first Davis sin- - gled In the fifth, took second on Hig ginbothani's single, but with two on Kpeas flied out. The Angels got to Hig in the third when he walked Wolter and Maegert Abstein's single scored "Wolter, but Maggert and the captain were left as the rest of the bunch flied out to the infield. In the eighth both of Port land's errors were bunched with two hits, but by some mighty good fielding tlic Angels were held to one run. Davis threw Wolter out for a starter. Page singled and stole second. He made bluff at third, and when Fisher took it weriously and threw wild to Kores, Page sneaked on down. Maggert sent Ultras a long fly, on which Page scored. fc-peas a moment later dropped Ao- stein's fly and Bill annexed second, but Davis threw Ell's out at first, and the Angels were through. sScore: Portland I Los Anceles B II O A E H H O A E 2 U.
