Appointment of Snipping Agent Result of Efforts by Teuton Society nd Chamber of Commerce Fritz Kirchoff, who has been in Port land for about two years and a half, representing the Hamburg-American steamship line, yesterday received his commission and credentials from the Emperor of Germany" and from the President of the United States, appoint ing and accepting him as German Consul for Oregon and Idaho. Baron von Loehneysen, of Seattle, who has had consular Jurisdiction over this dis trict heretofore, will come to Portland Monday and turn the documents and other properties of the office over to Mr. Kirchoff, who will establish his consular headquarters at 827 Chamber of Commerce building. There has been no consular office in Portland for Germany since Dr. Lohan retired, about five years ago. The German-speaking societies of Portland, of which Lr. y. H. Dammasch 1s president, and the Portland Cham ber of Commerce have been seeking to obtain the office here. Dr. Dammasch received the announcement that the pe titions of his society had been granted. yesterday at the same time Mr. Kirchoff received his commission. Mr. Kirchoff has been active in many movements for the betterment of ship ping conditions in Portland since his coming, and his activities were largely responsible for the decison of the Hamburg-A mercan line to come to Portland as a terminal port. CITY WANTS NEW PLANS Auditorium Architects to Be Given Option of Revising Designs Free. City Attorney LaRoche and City Commissioner Brewster will prepare a letter within the next few days to be sent to Freedlander & Seymour, archi tects, notifying them that the plans for the proposed public auditorium build ing will have to be revised to bring the cost down to 1450.000 and asking them whether they will be willing to revise the plans without other cost than that already asked for the first plana which have been rejected by the City council.
