"I am in hearty sympathy with the
purposes of the 'Go-to-Church Sunday.'
The city will reap general profit in the
form of better citizenship, in my Judg
ment, if the present plan brings about
a system 'of regular attendance for any
number of people, resulting, as it will,
in a better understanding of our neigh
bor. Certainly no harm can come to
one in going, and it is my positive
conviction that it will be the exact op
posite. I sincerely hope that everyone
who is able to do so will attend. The
move is in the right direction and de
serves every encouragement."
These are Mayor Albee's sentiments
regarding the much-talked-of Sunday.
Mrs. Frederick Eggert, president of
the Portland Woman's Club, is among
the enthusiastio supporters of the "Go-to-Church
Sunday" movement. Mrs.
Kggert said: "We were in Denverwhen
the day was celebrated there, and from
our hotel window could see the throngs
going to church. The interest was in
tense. The. results were most gratify
ing, and the good influence of the cam
paign has. I hear, been felt ever since.
3 think church-going is a good habit.
Those who go will find some message,
some inspiration, some help. I heartily
indorse the movement."
Good Manic Promised.
"We always have good music and
jrood sermons," said Dr. R. N. McLean,
pastor of Anabel Church, "and - next
Sunday will be as good an opportunity
as any for our friends to see how well
we manage our church services. We
will make them welcome. -We hope
they will like us and come again."
The presence of some distinguished
speakers in the city will attract the
attention of many who will be espe
cially interested in their addresses.
Dan Crawford, an independent Afri
can missionary, commonly called "the
Apostolic Successor to Livingston," will
be heard -in Portland at three services
on Sunday. In the morning at 11 o'clock
he will speak at the White Temple; in
the evening at 7:45 at the First Con
gregational Church, and in the after
noon at the Young Men's Christian As
sociation, t
Mr. Crawford will tell of his experi
ences in Africa, where he has been sta
tioned for the past 22 years. These
services will be some of the big "Go-to-Church
Sunday" attractions.
Mr. Crawford is a brilliant and elo
quent speaker and he has an interest
ing message to tell. He interprets to
the American people the problems of
the African.
Author-Missionary to Speak.
As an author Mr. Crawford is well
known through his book, "The Think
ing Black." He has translated the New
Testament into one of the African lan
guages after reducing that language to
written form. His American tour has
attracted wide attention. He will speak
in Salem and probably in Albany on
Monday and at Pacific University on
Tuesday.
Another celebrity to appear in Port
land on Sunday will be Mrs. Catherine
Booth-Clibborn, who will speak at the
White Temple on Sunday night. She is
an evangelist of international fame. As
the daughter of General Booth, of the
Salvation Army, she inherits many of
the splendid characteristics of her
world-famed father.
Out in the suburbs, a mile and a half
south of Lents, the Battin Sunday
school, which was started a short time
ago, has arranged to have special serv
ices with a good speaker for "Go-to-Church
Sunday."
The theaters, merchants, professional
men and women continue to volunteer
assistance. "Go-to-Church Sunday" is
making every one take notice.

DOG MUZZLING TO COME UP
Majority of City Commissioners Said
to Favor Ordinance.
Dog muzzling may be required, in
Portland after tomorrow. At the re
quest of the City Health Officer,. Com
missioner Dieck will introduce an or
dinance tomorrow providing muzzling
all dogs In the city. It is considered
certain the measure will have suffi
cient backing to be passed, although
Mayor Albee is opposed to it.
The question was up for considera
tion yesterday and the attitude- of
fitate Health Officer White in regard to
furnishing treatment to persons bitten
by rabid dogs was attacked by Com
missioner Bigelow. The City Health
Officer said Dr. White had announced
no serum would be furnished city pa
tients unless the city enforces the dog
muzzling ordinance.
Mayor Albee says his opposition is
.based on the fact ! that it has been
impossible up to this time to get a
iatieractory muzzle and the fact that
Dr. White has said the state would
furnish no serum unless the city
passed the muzzling ordinance. He
says he considers this a threat which
Dr. White cannot enforce.
