THE MORNING OREGONIAN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY , 5. 19141 13 V UNEVEN ITCHES SEEN AT ARMORY Fighters Featured in Card Do Not Appear Others Go on at Short Notice. TWO KNOCKOUTS SCORED Otoc and Keelan Furnish Only Real Contest of Evening Boatrlght and McN'ell Battle at 35 1 Pounds' Difference. Th Armory Athletic Club's smoker at the Armory last night was a meet or possibilities. Had Al McNeil and Boatrlgmt fought men of their own size, and had Nelson, the knocker-out. been able to keep going the way he started nis bout with Schuld, there mignt nave been some bouts worth while. There were two knockouts tn seven bouts. Nelson is the boxer who rnade short work of Parslow in the re cent Multnomah Club smoker. He waded In again last night, but before a minute of the round was over he had to lay off, as Schuld refused to be knocked out Schuld got his wind and tretched out Nelson. Groat, of the Beaver Club, and Bright, an unattached, appeared fit, but after waltzing through a round, Groat knocked Bright all over the ring. Groce and Keelan furnished the only real match of the evening. However, both seemed afraid of hurting the other. Uroce started fine but he had a habit of Jaylng himself open to brush his hair out of his eyes. Keelan sailed In and won the decision In the extra two min utes called by the referee. Drlscoll and Santol, at 105 pounds, started fairly well,- but the bout ended disastrously for Santol in the second round. McNeil and Boatrlght were fighting with a weight difference of 25 pounds or more. At that, McNeil was not hope lessly outclassed, and though Boat right received the decision, McNeil was on the aggressive in at least two of th three rounds. The shaky programme was not the fault of the fighters, as several of them Jumped on at a minute's notice. Groce appeared because Hyberg failed to show up and McNeil went on with Boatrlght because neither Montpier nor Huelat, of the Mulftiomah Club, were In; con dition. The summary follows: Exhibition match Grant, 150 pounds, vs. Williams, 178 pounds: no decision. rriscoll. Boaver Club. 105 pounds, de cision over Santol, 105 pounds, unat tached. Feichtinger, 135 pounds, unattached, knocked out by Somervllle, 135 pounds, Armory, second round. Bright, 158 pounds, unattached, stopped by Groat, Beaver Club, second round. Nelson, 158 pounds, unattached, knocked out by Schuld, Armory, first round. Keelan, Woodlawn, 145 pounds, de cision over Groce, Armory, fourth round. Boatrlght. Multnomah Club, 145 pounds, decision over Al- McNeil, 115 pounds. Beaver Club. Otticials Thornton. referee; Grif fith and Mlebus, Judges. Portland will have another amateur club to compete in the staging of , smokers. The Jackies on the Oregon Naval Militia's boat, the Boston, have organized a club which will stage a programme Just as soon as a sanction and a programme can be arranged.
