The crowd was dispersed and Hammel. with his shack- eled prisoner, emerged, hurried Into a motorcar, and were whirled out to El Monte. Hammel said all of the Jewelry Bos-H tick took from the women passengers In one of the Sunset train's Pullmans had not been accounted for. and he wanted Bostlck. among other things. to say whether he had buried the loot near the scene or the noiaup. Bostlck for a time was very surly todar. This was due to Hammers activity In running down clues to the Identity of the girl, a hotel chamber maid, for whom, the Sheriff said, Bos tlck had turned to crime. Hammel promised not to reveal her name and Bostlck nromtsed to he more com munlcatlve when be and the Sheriff arrived at El Monte. When the Sheriff and his prisoner returned from El Monte, the Sheriff said Bostlck had led him over the scene of the holdup and that his con fession bad been confirmed In every respect. Five Pocketbooka FonnL "We found five pocketbooks." said the Sheriff, -which Bostick had taken from as many passengers and . then thrown away, as well as a vanity bag belonging to Mrs. Arthur Colen. who, with her husband, was responsible for the arrest of Bostlck In San Francisco. "We later went to a roomlnghouse In Los Angeles, where he was a lodger for a short time, and found nls state ments concerning his stay there also were true. Before the robber was taken to El Monte. Mrs. Roberta Chase Harding. a passenger on the Sunset Express, called at the jail and identified Bos tick as the man who had robbed her. A project to form an Associated Chari ties board, to have a relation to the municipal government similar to that of the Park and Library boards, was proposed by Mayor Yoran last evening, when 1000 persons of Eugene assembled about an illuminated tree In a public square in the culminating event of the charity campaign that has sought out all cases of want In the city and has mlnltsered to the needs of these per sons. Details of the plan have not been worked out, but it is quite probable that the Thursday Charity Club, which has been doing a quiet work for eight or ten years, will be largely Instru mental In the organization of the new commission. Twenty - seven jnembers of the University of Oregon tJiee Club have started on the longest tour ever undertaken by that organiza tion. The warblers will be on the road tea days aud will travel close to 1700 miles, with Boise, idaho. as their ob jective point. - The club this year, under the direc tion of Professor Ralph Lyman, is con sidered the vfrongest that ever repre sented Oregon before the footlights: It already has appeared in several con certs, having made a barnstorming sally Into several Western Oregon towns during the Thanksgiving vaca tion. Its annual appearance in Eugene December 12 also was received with more than the usual enthusiasm. Delbert C. Stanard, of Portland, who has been, a member of the club for four seasons. Is president and leader. Four stunt" men are carried. Wlllard Shaver, of Portland, and Norton Cowden, of Silverton, form one of the teams. Their skit is a travesty on a vaudeville show, and has been well re ceived. Shaver's specialty is Swedish comedy, while Cowden operates the piano cleverly. Bertrand Jerard. of Pendleton, and Merwln Batley. of La Grande, put on a ragtime act which has scored heavily. The itinerary of the present trip is as follows: Hood River, tonight; The Dalles. December 27; Baker. December 29; Boise, December 30; Caldwell. De cember SI; Ontario, January 1; La Grande. January 2, and Pendleton, Jan uary 3. The songsters will miss none of their classes, for they will return to Eugene before the close of the ChriBtmas vacation. This is the first trip of the club through Eastern Ore gon In two seasons, and its first venture into Idaho. DAILY CITY STATISTICS Births. MEAnnwS To Mr. and Mrs. Lavton Ev erett Meadows, rsrkwood.
