DECEMBER 0, 1913. " Charges by Plaintiff Include Hough Treatment hp h Left Arm Stiff, f-o That Music Teacher Says Classes Had to Be Given Vp. Alter a trial luting since Tuesday of last week, a verdict was returned Xor 1T. A. E. Rocker in the $30,000 malT practice suit brought aftatnst him by Mrs. Bcrtlne IL Prudhomme. The ver dict was returned sealed yesterday morning, when Judge Cleeton convened court, bavin? been agreed upon after court was adjourned Thursday nleht. Mrs. Prudhomme charged that Dr. Hockey was careless and unskillful in his treatment of her arm. which was broken December 26, 1912. She was kept waiting several hours, she testi fied, when she went to Dr. Rockey's of fice to have the arm set. though Dr. Hockey was in his office at the time. After he had removed the splints last March. Mrs. Prudhomme alleged that Dr. Rockey was rough and violent in breaking down the adhesions which caused her elbow to be stiff, and that as a r-su'.t of his treatment her elbow was 5's located. As a result of his de lay' in Melting the broken arm and his treatment in breaking down tne ad hesions In the elbow, Mrs. Prudhomme suffered intense pain, she alleged, and has not recovered more than slight use of her arm. Leas of Baalaeaa Charged. Mrs. Prudhomme charged further that she was a music teacher and be cause of the present condition of her arm has been compelled to give up her classes. Dr. Rockey's defense was that to break down the adhesions in the elbow and prevent stiffness violent treatment was necessary and denied that he had dislocated Mrs. Prudhomme's elbow when ha attempted to straighten her am. The double fracture of the bones of the forearm, as was the case with Mrs. Prudhomme. he said, required the most careful treatment and that every thing he did for it was according to the methods of approved surgeons and . physicians. In this he was upheld by most of the testimony of the physi cians who were called as witnesses. In his defense Dr. Rockey relied on his own testimony and that of three physicians. Dr. L. H. Hamilton. Dr. James F. Bell and Dr. 11. R. Cliff, ap pointed by Judge Cleeton to examine Mrs. Prudbomme's arm and report on Us present condition. Experts Agree With Defendant. These doctors testified that the arm had not been dislocated and might have .been in much better condition at pres ent had it been treated regularly after the adhesions were" broken. Dr. Hockey's treatment of the injured mem ber up to last March, when Mrs. Prud homme discontinued her consultations with him, had been proper and accord- j lng to good surgery, they testified. j Most Of the testimony offered dur- ' Ing the trial was extremely t-tnii ul. !
