Prices EffectlTe Today.
Tb wheat market In tit XorthweAt la
dv?iopinr Into local situation somewhat
earlier than usual. Prices are abov the
eiort basis, but that docs not prevent bur
ets from adranclnff their bids. Wheat
farmers at the present t Litis seem to have
the better of the argument, as the demand
Is sufficiently urgent to compel buyers to
come to sellers terms. The weak holders
throne bout the country have been elim
inated and the supplies remaining are In
the hands of farmers who usually hold un
til Spring.
The market is on a good substantial ba
sts. It Is certain now that the crop was
sot a heavy one and the wheat has cone
out faster than ever before. The ship
ments te date have been 1S,96,6T bushels,
or nearly 1. 500. 000 bushels more than were
hipped at this time last year, and about
4.000.000 buehcls more than the average for
this date.
It is the realization of the fact that
stocks in the country are much reduced, to
gether with the urgency of the demand, that
Is causing prices te move upward. There
were California orders for seed wheat In
the market yesterday at prices several
cents higher than last week's bids. Japanese
buyers weer also in the market for red
wheat at prices close to sellers' ideas. Buy
ing in the country was not easy. There
were bids of cents for club end 3 and
3 cents for forty-fold. Offers of
cents were made fur bluest em. but this va
riety of wheat is so firmly held that little
business In tt Is passing.
The new our prices, announced In these
Volumni yesterday,, will take effect this
morning. The advance will be -0 cents over
the prices heretofore aaked.

Matthews saw the act and chased the
