When the statement appeared after the close of the market. It was seen that these pesslmlstlo predictions had some Justifica tion. Higher European cable and. raaor U at a Xirmar eost and I Farther Fall Is Prevented by Light ness of Primary Receipts. World's Supply Smaller. CHICAGO,' Oct. S3. Relief from drouth In Argentina led to a setback today in the price of wheat. As a result, the close was at a decline of o net. Corn showed a gain of o to o over last night, and oats a decline of o to o. In pro visions the outcome varied from $a loss to a rise of 10c Wheat prices would doubtless have had a greater fall had It not been for the fact that primary receipts were much smaller than a year ago. Further sustaining power came from knowledge that the world a available supply Increase appeared ab surdly slender compared with what experi ence would suggest. . Prospects that the Winter basis of feed ing would be established without delay separated the corn trade from the influence of weakness in wheat. Heaviness In oats resulted from hedging sales here by Winnipeg buyers of cash lots. Moderate Investment demand with cover ing by shorts made provisions generally firm.
