cial.) One hundred and fifty firemen
from Portland and the valley towns are
expected to attend the Bremen's tour
nament to be held In this city on Labor
day. Oregon City has named "a team
of IS ' to participate, Albany has
named 25, Salem. 10; Eugene, 10, and
acceptances have come from practically
every town In the valley, with assur
ance that from three to ten men will
take part, Gres Karri and Lents write
that they will exhibit something; speciarl
here.
- The Corvallls department has raised
over $600 lor cash prizes and for a
banquet at the Hotel Julian In honor
of the visitors. The City Hall will 'be
Illuminated with 2000 lights.
Corvallls department has a $15,000
' equipment, with a large hall for meet
ing purposes. The department num
bers 75 members, all being volunteers
except the chief, the drivers and four
'paid night men. The bunch. Is a live
one and expects to give the visitors a
royal good time. The principal events
of the tournament on September 1 will
be as follows: '

- Aurora Gets Phone Rate.

The complaint of the Aurora Mutual
Telephone Company against the Pacific
Telephone & Telegraph Company and
the Northwestern sng-tistance Tele
phone Company, In which a rate of 15
cents for telephoning from Aurora to
Portland was asked, was dismissed by
the State Railroad Commission today.
The companies complained against have
agreed to pnt knto erxect the lb-cent
rate.
Florence Ship Crabs.
FLORENCE. Or Aug. 29. (SpeclaL)
The first large shipment of shell fish
from Florence to the Willamette Valley
was made today., when the Florence
Produce Exchange Company, shipped
500 crabs to Eugene. They have to be
taken over the eo-mlle Mapleton-Eu-geae
stage line. With the coming of
the railroad and better shipping facili
ties, Florence will ship a large amount

of early hops in this vicinity. Some
yards have already begun on the late
hops. About two weeks more of good
weather will finish the picking. This
year's crop will be about the same as
that of last seaon. Several' growers
have already sold their hops at 22
cents. The rain ot yesterday did no
damage.
